Government Shutdown

Can you give any more info, I'm in the Southern Region and I know folks at my facility would be willing to participate as well. Or is it to late to get it to them this week.
I would agree with estup. Your FACREP is dropping the ball. Reps are on a direct communication with Jim and Jason and they strongly urged FACREPS to encourage their members to do this.

Some y’all saying “well you should have savings etc etc” are missing the entire point. It doesn’t matter if you can go 10 years without a paycheck. No one should have to work for an IOU. It’s that simple. No one here is saying controllers have it worse than others in the same situation, but stop acting surprised controllers are talking about how it affects controllers on a controller website.

In lieu of this shutdown affecting everyone... Has N90 relented on its new "No OT for trainees" policy (because there are 'too many' trainees now, which threatens the legacy $300,000 & $400,000 club members) and decided to share the wealth? Don't answer if you will end as the proverbial "someone who just didn't work out for N90".

It’s not no OT for trainees, it’s no OT for data only trainees who are waiting for a class because we literally have 8+ of them in my sector alone. Trainees training on scopes get OT. And enough of that “my ot is threatened so we can’t check people out” bullshit. It’s not like that and never has been.

So take the move money and show us what you got. Don’t answer if you’ll end that proverbial “I just don’t want to live on Long Island”. Otherwise, I wouldn’t talk about stuff you clearly don’t know about because so far you’re 0 for 2.

And yeah, there really are too many trainees here atm. The FAA dumped about 100 of them on us in the last 6 months of 2018. So many in fact that the parking lot ran out of room and they had people parking on the grass until they could expand it. And the NDIS, the people who came up with our new training program, forbids trainees training in a position when it’s combined up with something they’re not training on, but since we are so poorly staffed already we have to be combined a lot so you have 5 trainees trying to train on 1 position that is only able to be split for 3 hours a shift.

Honestly I personally see no quick resolution to this. No one can agree on anything and the flying public is not impacted. Mark my words, so long as they are not impacted nothing will change quickly. Just an observation.
I've been saying this since it began. If they actually shut it down instead of making us work for IOUs this never would have happened.

Shut down the NAS a couple days before Christmas and Bobby border wall can't go see his Nana and pop pop for the holidays? Massive uproar.

Until this hurts the general public (the mouthpieces who pander to trumps dwindling base in particular) in a meaningful way we aren't gonna see any movement I'm afraid.

Did we ever get an official word from OPM telling us to code “leave” as furlough in the art, versus management telling us to code it as sick leave? That nonsense just hit my facility.

They just made our RPOs and contractors essential (excepted) for Super Bowl training only... I guess the NFL doesn’t want delays...

Haha. Guess someone watched that interview the NATCA rep did a few days ago and totally missed the point.

But fuck that. "Essential employee" doesn't mean "whoever we need to ensure rich people aren't inconvenienced". I hope NATCA jumps on this angle - nothing can be done about not paying 800,000 employees, but they'll do whatever it takes to make sure private jet owners aren't delayed.

Do not expect the Government to reopen before the end of next week (Jan.15th-18th). Today Trump made a request to address the Nation on multiple News Channels, for this Tuesday at 9P.M. If there was an actual compromise on the table that both sides were actively considering to pass this week, he would not go to such lengths. Both sides will wait for polling organizations to run surveys after his broadcast and the results of those typically take days. It is very unlikely that they will even attempt to reach a compromise before then and the poll results will only be released at the end of this week, at the earliest but could go into the weekend. After that, same rules apply, it will take Congress a day to vote on any potential compromise and the government will only reopen that following day.

I have a funny feeling he's going to claim a national emergency and have the military build it, Democrats will have shit fit and keep the government closed in retaliation. McConnell and Pelosi will have to sit in chairs staring at each other and think about what they have done, Trump will talk about how he's made yuge progress while keeping his nose in the corner.
