Holiday pay

Rumor going through our facility is that those on their 5 days off (we do 5-5 here) won’t have the opportunity to receive holiday pay. Anyone else hearing this?

You could look at which day your EA is and which days your in lieu of is and see if it should be paid. Management could easily change which day is an RDO and which is EA so you either do or don’t get it depending on how much they suck.

If you worked the holiday, you get paid the holiday pay. I’m sure a lot of facilities coded Monday as admin/WX so they don’t have to pay in lieu...

We had this discussion too. People who didn’t work the holiday didn’t get paid additional for it. Our facrep tried to push and they completely shut him down.

Not a facrep but for a while I was getting the emails and I think I saw one several weeks ago that said each 5 day workweek had to be sandwiched between an RDO on each side, then fill other RDOs somewhere to make 4 RDOs each PP, and then the days left after working your facility's specific rotation was Admin. Then I saw somewhere that were supposed to be getting Sunday pay if our Admin day fell there (maybe that's something NATCA wanted but it never went through? I really don't know for sure so don't take this as a fact, please.

I did some spreadsheets to see where days would fall. Like a Sudoku puzzle, some PPs there was only one configuration of RDOs and Admin that would work based on the criteria, others there were some multiple ways to place the days and make it work.

All I know is the weeks that it could work by making various combinations of Admin and RDOs and avoid an Admin on a Sunday, then the FAA was gonna make sure that Sunday was an RDO and not Admin. I'm not sure if they are allowed to do THREE RDOs in a row to dodge Sundays but in several scenarios they would have had to in order to avoid an Admin on Sunday. Anyway, I don't even know if the Sunday thing is real anyway. We need an engaged facrep who can tell us for sure about the Sunday pay and if there's rules for how they code 4 RDOs into a PP.

Long story short, if they can legally set the schedule to avoid paying you Holiday pay, then guess what? They will.

Boo hoo I didn’t work a holiday, but but but But I deserve it. Geez what a bunch of god damn babies. You are all getting free leave on your time off. That’s not worth more than one stupid holiday? My god.
I get your point but a lot of people are bringing home less with lost differentials and holidays during the expanded days off. I know the extra time off is “worth” more but if you were in a situation where you were relying on every dollar it could be hard on you. And don’t drop the “just Uber or deliver food to people with the extra time” line, it’s not that simple.

Differentials are based on what you are scheduled to work and actually work, if you dont work them with this crazy schedule you should have bid something different like many facilities did. Also, in many cases if you can’t survive without your differentials I’m not sorry to say it, make better choices. Don’t have that 4th kid, don’t have that 2nd divorce, stop buying another game console, don’t buy your 6th Harley. Cut some corners, you do it at work why can’t you with your finances? Just like the government, we need to make more to make ends meet rather than saying we need to cut spending to make ends meet.

there is a thing called the contract. It was made to make working conditions fair and equitable. The whole reason we have in-lieu Of holiday days is so that no matter what your RDOs are, you all get the same holiday pay. That way the most senior people can’t pick a line where they work most holidays and the most junior people never get them or vice-Versa.

Now You could argue that “well if you wanted holiday pay, don’t bid RDOs on the holidays” except we didn’t bid these days, they are all straight up assigned with this schedule (another contract violation). Now you’re not giving anyone any choice in their days on and off and now you’re going to arbitrarily decide who does and who does not get the chance to earn some extra money working a holiday, not giving people, who had no choice in their schedule, their in-lieu of day?

That’s pretty shitty and a huge violation of the spirit of the contract, if not the letter. With friends like you, who needs enemies? Rights not exercised are rights lost. This is the same FAA that said business as usual and kept right on training even as dozens of facilities went ATC zero or limited Bc of covid outbreaks. They don’t care about you, and they never will.
