I’m just curious what all of you are referencing as “furloughs” because I bet we have different definitions. Do you mean furlough as in a private sector furlough where you are technically on the books but in a actual non-pay status? Or do you mean the public sector furloughs which happen regularly with government shut downs where you are told to stay home and not doing anything and might miss a check or two but then are assured full back pay? Or do you mean a actual lay off where you are separated for good? I doubt any of them happen but if it does I think it would be the assured back pay one with more free leave.

Probably like my wife, who has been furloughed by State Government. They furloughed 10%, so two days a month she stays home without pay.
Nice for her though that she can choose which days she wants off, and she can even bank those days and take them all at once after a few months. Guarantee that if we ever do get a similar furlough, there's no chance we'll be taking days off that we actually want off.

Don’t worry, guys. My Zoom instructor says the FAA doesn’t want to pay us to sit at home anymore, so we’re stretching out training by listening to audio clips for 3 hours. “If we finish refresher training, the agency will want to stop paying you.” It’s okay though, because my NATCA rep told me not to worry too much!
If you do enough you can that raise you constantly wine about

I swapped mine in 2013 to save a day of leave. Turned out if I kept the original, I wouldn’t have been furloughed. $800 I’ll never get back
I gave up 8hr Annual Leave to get mine paid for. Still pisses me off and it was only $300 for me ?. Every government shutdown since I take some free days though. Netted eight days during the last one!

A guy at my old center asked around for peoples furlough days. He got them, including mine. I think he got close to 2 weeks worth.

actual furloughs. Go home. You are not paid. You will not be paid. You’ll come back when natca deems they have a staffing crisis.

I grew up next to Pelican Bay, not a bad place as long as your not...in the prison...
Crescent city is great. Love the north coast, could just drive up and down it and be happy.

There ya go, I was more towards Fort Dick, used to be a great place then the hobos showed up. No clue how they live in that area.

PHL went ATC Zero for a few hours a few nights ago. The FAA have their airspace to NY Center. The controller working it had no freaking clue what he was doing working approach or the airspace at all. (Nor would he never being trained for that) There were no landlines from my area (the one that abuts PHL) to that area in ZNY.

The funniest thing I hear is always the idea of consolidating airspace like it's a no brainer easy thing to do.

Anyone else’s facility negotiating trying to go back to 5/10? We switched to 5/5 about a month ago for an “anticipated” 20-30% increase in traffic... it wasn’t much.
A bunch of controllers here wanna go back.... I’m at a core 30

Sounds like I won’t finish training until 2024.

This may be a more basic question than I realize, but someone the other day was asking me why all the enroute facilities aren’t all together in just some sort of super center. Only thing I could think of would be a national security threat in case everything went down. Anyone have a more educated guess?

We went back to normal schedules because we didn't have enough staffing to cover overtime calls, management switched to saying the staffing was for traffic and not corona.
