Anyone have any real way of knowing how you get chosen to study Enroute or Terminal ?

I don't think anyone really knows, and if they did know how it went last time it may have changed for this time.

One thing I've heard that sounded plausible (and IIRC came from someone on this site who usually knows what they're talking about) is they make a big list in alphabetical order and alternate down the list T, E, T, E until they run out of terminal slots and then everyone after that is enroute. That was a while ago though, back when you got your T/E assignment with the TOL. Now you get the assignment with your FOL. When I went through a couple years ago I was hearing they put you in the next open class as soon as all your clearances came back, so whichever class was available first determined the assignment.

That makes no sense. If they did that there would be no terminal controls with last names near the end of the alphabet

ZNY has a 30% pass rate

You cant get N90. If you get terminal you are limited to level 7 and below. If ZNY is on your list then do better than the person in dead last and you wont go there.
so that begs the questions, can you go to an 8+ Up/down on a enroute track? how to you get into anything besides tower only if you can't? I'm still trying to sort through these things in my head as far as what is actually on the table for enroute vs terminal tracks.

Enroute is only centers.

Terminal is tower only, up/downs, and tracons.

Enroute trainees can go to any level facility... I think the lowest center is an 8.

Terminal OTS trainees can only go to level 7 and below (so no stand alone tracons), occasionally a level 8 will be offered.

Click link and hit download in upper right hand corner. This doc is from 2014 though and like Termine said, it's likely outdated now that your assignment comes with your FOL rather than TOL.

So En Route is what people who want more flexibility on location should be hoping for?

Are there any other differences between the two?

There are 21 total centers (enroute) and more than a hundred towers.

Pay is the difference. Pay is determined based on level and in general the centers are the higher levels. Training time at centers is historically longer than terminal, although with the huge covid backup who knows. Nobody will be certifying quickly. The technology between the two is significantly different as is the job task and duties.

so pay at a center would be better at first, but a terminal should get you higher faster due to certifying, assuming covid doesn’t have a big effect on it?

How would you say the tech is different? Which is easier on a day to day basis in your opinion?

D2 at some centers is more than CPC at some towers. The advantage to tower is that you can certify in 8 months then transfer.

Anyone with KH hear anything, when I got a hold of him Monday he said he was sending us everything at the same time and said it should be this week but it’s Friday and still nothing so jw if anyone else with him heard anything ugh lol

is that really the average time it takes to certify? I was expecting 2+ years. I know it depends on where you go but generally speaking how long does it typically take?
