Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Asking again since this was probably missed:

Does Tier 2 refer to just failing the MMPI or does it mean basically any medical stuff that needs further evaluation?

Also anyone have any idea how long future evaluations would take/what the process is?

While the FAQ’s don’t specifically say it’s the MMPI(only), the overall results and feelings I’ve seen from the forums is, yes it’s only the MMPI.

Everything else to me would just be either “give us more info” or “you’re disqualified” for previous medical condition(s). The MMPI is the only thing that makes sense that could be “swayed” by further review.

I’m sure if I’m wrong, somebody will right the ship.

How I heard about this job.. My high school was actually next to a center lol. I played high school football and our football stadium was a good throw from it so I've always kind of known about the building. My friend's parents were both controllers, and they let me know how the job was. Thought about going CTI, and took a couple of classes, but decided to go another route instead (IT). Applied last year and took the ATSA, referred but was not selected. Took it again this year and got a TOL. Pretty close to aging out so happy that everything worked out like it was supposed to.

I have my medical on Monday and was seen by a doctor for migraines at age 7. According to my medical history they only lasted about 6 months and I haven't had any since then (I don't even really remember them I was so young). I have, and I would suggest you do the same, gotten a copy of all of my medical records relating to migraines in the past. I also have a copy of a doctor visit I had two years ago where my physician basically stated that I do not experience migraines any more or take medication for them. I'm going to bring these to my medical on Monday so that they have them from the get go and it doesn't cause extra waiting time when they inevitably ask for them.

I'm going to work on getting all the documents. I'm hoping for the best. Thank you & hopefully you will get an FOL soon!

So how did y'all hear about this job?
Buddy of mine in the position told me about it at a wedding, and how I'd be perfect at it with my background, skills, and mentality. Killing myself that I never really thought about it before I was 29... lol. If I don't end up with a TOL in this bid, I'm praying they get the next one out before September this year or I'm toast.

You only need to be 31 or younger when the bid opens, think you got another two chances, not just one.

Damm bro, did they let you get a chance to explain yourself for anything you did in the past that they deemed a risk?
I submitted an LOI for having a suspended license back in 2011 (broke college student, couldn't afford speeding ticket), and I had some credit cards go to collections but were paid off (I have a 710 credit score now lol).

Just thought I would let you guys know that I called HR today to see if any more TOLs would be sent out. The rep told me its still possible that ATO will be selecting more people.

I also asked her what my ATSA score was. She said that they are categorizing those who passed the test in three bands. Best qualified, well qualified, and qualified. She got my name and info and looked me up and told me that I am in the "well qualified" group.

Which HR number did you call?

Well assuming the ATSA is scored on a 1-100% scale and if passing is 70%, one could probably conclude “qualified” is 70-79.9%, “well qualified” is 80-89.9% and “best qualified” is 90-100%. Just a guess, but that would make sense.

Also just for reference to anyone who is still awaiting a TOL and may consider re-applying in the future, the notion that re-taking the ATSA improves your odds is not necessarily true. I took the ATSA for the 2017 OTS bid, but was not selected. I reapplied for this bid, but opted to recycle my previous scores and did not re-test. TOL received 2 weeks ago.

Hm I didn't know you could recycle the scores. It is my first time applying and no TOL :(. It feels kind of risky to recycle an ATSA score when they give you no idea about how well you did besides the fact you got more than 70%.

Are you from MN by chance?

If you didn’t receive a TOL this year, and applied next year, I would see no reason why you wouldn’t retake the ATSA.. You’d “hypothetically” perform better from at least seeing it the previous year. No way I’d roll the dice and hoped everyone scored worse than me the next time around.

After doing it once, it's definitely something you can work on improving. If I didn't get a TOL this year, I would have 100% taken it again after working on my reading comprehension skills since I know that's what I did the worst on.

Wow this is similar to me but I got terminated instead of a suspended license and 2 collection accounts (under 1k). I don’t know how that would be deemed a national security issue. I pretty much told them I was a poor college student with no criminal or drug history and learned from my past. This whole process is frustrating.

The number on the application form. (405) 954-4657

If you were in the "qualified" group then I could see taking the test to move up to the "well qualified" group making sense. But if you are already "well qualified" then is it really necessary to retake the test?

Just because you don't get a conditional clearance doesn't mean you failed it. They just have to complete the full background check before they can make a determination.

What job did/do you have in IT? I am currently studying to get A+ and Security+ certificates.
