Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Spoke with HR they said there was a glitch and they sent out referred emails even to some who failed the ATSA. Looks like I failed but she said they are opening another bid in January.

Dude, Im sorry to hear that. Getting pulled around like that is rough. Hope you go for the next bid. Good luck man

Cam, sorry to hear that but best of luck moving forward. Do any of the old guys have any idea why they would be opening another bid so soon? Will this wave of TOL’s even be distributed by then?
You're basing facts off of what one person said they were told by another person who probably heard it from someone else. There will be another bid early next year but it's not clear if it's in January yet or as late April. and typically TOLs are given out within two months of the close date of the AT-SA, that was on November 30th. Latest we should hear back is by January 30th.

Edit: Just an fyi, the July 30th bid that most of us applied for was originally scheduled to open in mid-June.

That is a helluva punch right to the nether regions, sorry that happened to you man.

Wow, that is a really short time between bids. My guess is that means if you don't get a TOL immediately for the current bid you won't get one at all. Still really sucks that it happened to you.

I wonder if they've "fixed" the BA now or if the next bid will also be first-come-first-served...

Interesting . . . if they are opening a new bid in January I wonder if it'll be location specific like the N90. I don't see why they would do another bid while they can still offer TOLs to people from this bid. Could it be that they don't have the numbers they'd like still in this bid? Or are they trying to change the time of year they do bids going forward? And yes I know it is the FAA so spare me the "welcome to the FAA" posts :).

Maybe they want to keep getting new high scoring applicants instead of accepting everyone that passed
That's another way of saying they don't have the numbers. This is the most I have ever wanted to be a fly on the wall in a job application process.

I have a feeling they want to keep choosing from pool 1 and prior exp, and may be trying to get around the amount that they have to choose from pool 2. If they open more bids the ratio per bid can be controlled if that makes sense.

I doubt it, OTS vs CTI/MIL have the same pass rate at the academy.

I cant respond to one of you guys because multiple have asked the same question. The FAA will post bids with people still waiting tols/fols etc. They do this every year. Typically a bid early on (jan-apr) and another near September (sep-nov). IF YOU GET REFERRED OR NOT I WOULD APPLY EITHER WAY TO THE NEXT BID. The FAA will tell you you cannot have multiple TOL's and then you have the nice warm feeling that one is coming. In the negative version if you are referred and do NOT apply in jan they, and subsequently do NOT get a TOL. You missed an opportunity on the next bid. Good luck all you ins. And remember. It's a LONG process, and do NOT do anything life changing (by a house, quit a job, etc) until you have a start date with the FAA at the academy.

When was the last time there were 2 OTS bids in the same year? (Other than the N90 and OTS from this year)

Actually, it's not another way of saying that. Those are two totally different statements.
It would probably be really boring, just a sorting of a spreadsheet of names and scores with yours somewhere on there.

I suggested that they may not have the number of applicants they would like. What you are suggesting is that one way or another they may have raised the ATSA minimum score leaving a fewer number of applicants than they want. We're talking semantics but same thing.

P.S.
I'm just speculating for fun. :)

Sorry. Dont exactly know that answer. More so not sure if its ever happened. The more I think about it I was just comparing when I applied as open to all but forgot I applied for experience bids as well. Anywho. I can tell you I was referred to a experienced bid, applies to the open and they pretty quickly told me that I was getting a tol for the experience bid and that j dont "qualify" for the open one..

Ahh I see. Thanks for the info! Either way seems like a pretty good deal for the people who applied to this bid assuming that this bid early next year happens. Currently my worry is the government shutdown delaying TOLs and everything :(.
