Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Actually my HR person told me you were more likely to get hired each time you apply

If this is true, i'd imagine it would be something like... they see your name multiple times already and your score was an 85...and they give you a tol instead of the dozens of people who also had an 85. HR is run by people--they can make preferences we don't know about.

If anything, that lends some credence to the half-joking suggestion that the scores this time around were much lower than previous bids. Ignoring Band 2 (70-79%) scores, if you got a TOL it means your score was higher than everyone in your Pool who didn't get one.

Or maybe the people that post here are only a small percentage of people who got TOL’s and the last 2 pages of this thread are people speculating why they didn’t get their TOL without considering the fact that maybe they just aren’t cut out for it. Let’s all assume this was just a historically bad applicant pool because that makes everyone feel good.

So for those of us who got a TOL, assuming you pass medical and background which I have no reason to believe I wouldn’t, you’re going to get an academy date. Is there anything I can be studying or SHOULD be studying between now and then to prepare me for the academy? I have zero ATC experience.

You don't need to do anything. But if you want there's a study guide link in my sig.

I always kind of figured that it would take 6+ months to get us TOL holders the first couple class dates, but I do wonder how much the shutdown and restarting the academy will put us behind. Most of us might not even see a FOL until fall/winter.

I expect it’ll be similar to our 17 timeline with maybe a month or so delay. There’s not a lot of you so I bet it’ll go quickly. The majority of us went in the summer of 18

They’ll always be a few people that get through the process and get a class date quick! It’s like a mind game to keep you on your heels. Good luck! The rumors I’ve heard is that everything rewinds 2 weeks at the academy so it shouldn’t be a colossal slow down.

No. The girl that finished first in our class had 0 ATC experience or aviation knowledge. They set it up where everything you’ll need to know will be presented to you. Extra knowledge helps, but isn’t necessary. Learn what they tell you to learn and play by their rules are the two pieces of advice I’d go by at the academy.

Hoping someone can help me out.
Completed the ATSA in October , Referred in November for this announcement number. With all things considered with the shutdown - has anyone new heard or received anything? Am I missing something or am I supposed to just continue waiting?

Just wait for now. A lot more info on the previous pages in this thread. Some TOL's are out but everything is up in the air due to the extended shutdown.

I get that people are curious and want answers, but its super simple to just click back a page or two and see answers to these questions. I feel like everyday there is someone who is asking for updates like people who visit this forum work in HR.
