Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-19-ALLSRCE-61676

Is that really true? I skipped the online basics but now i am kinda mad i did. I hope i dont wait 6 months for them to tell me i have to do the virtual online onboarding anyway. Does anyone have any insight to this? I sent my POC multiple emails but no response.
I feel like if they thought that the academy wouldn’t open up for the foreseeable future (like the rest of the year as a hypothetical) then they would at least disclose that to you. That’s a pretty big decision to make without having information like that to factor in.

I believe they were already working towards moving basics to online before the pandemic struck according to instructors I had early this year. Since this pandemic is expected to return in the Fall, I’d be surprised if any new classes go through basics at the academy this year. I would not recommend skipping virtual basics if you can afford to as it may be your quickest route through the academy. I mean would you rather have to spend 4 months or 3 months in OKC knowing you may get sent home at anytime? In this time of uncertainty, I’d take what the FAA is giving you now versus depending on future plans.

Lol you're asking a lot from the FAA. Welcome aboard. Like the person above said, basics was already being moved online. So that would have nothing to do with the academy opening or not. Take the virtual basics. You dont want to be at the end of the line.

Very true. A lot of wishful thinking on my behalf lol

Lol the agency isn’t going to communicate something like that. Myself and other developmentals who are already on payroll haven’t been at work for almost 2 months and some people haven’t gotten any updates at all. I’ve heard from management twice in 60 days. Once from NATCA.

HAHA yeah you should lower your expectations of your future employer before your first day. Basics in OKC is 6-feet-underground, stone cold dead. When HR calls, accept what they're offering.. your future depends on it. HR is not up to speed. Best of luck to everyone finally getting classes.

This is a frustrating choice for me. I was just called and offered online onboarding, had the cut the call short as I was working so I'm not sure what date.

I currently make close to $30 an hour with hazard pay during this pandemic. The pay cut just isn't possible for me to be able deal with without the per diem. I'm going to have to tell them I have to wait for the academy to open back up.

It's just very frustrating when I have one foot out the door of this job I hate. I hope everyone that can do this is able to take advantage of the offer. Good luck everyone!

Dont hold your breath. Basics may never be offered at the academy again.

I don’t think he’s allowed to work full time while getting paid/attending basics. Who knows how long it’s gonna be between his online basics and his OKC class
Exactly, I'll be okay for a month at that pay rate, so I can do it online. I just can't wait who knows how many months while my savings drains.

Someone here said they asked and you get paid the waiting period between basics and going to okc for initial training
Yes. You get paid admin leave while waiting to go to the academy after basics. This is what the HR person that called me said. She also said you can work part-time in the evenings but not during the day. You need to be available for class.

I had to pass on the virtual onboarding mostly for that reason. There's a lot of uncertainty with the offer, and sitting around for possibly 4 months on admin pay until the Academy reopens wasn't something I was willing to do. If I left my current job, there's no getting it back. Everyone needs to make the decision for themselves.

So you get paid for basics but the Waiting period between basics and the academy you don’t get paid, right?
You get paid at the academy rate which is super
Low.

I don’t see how they would know how many hours your part time job is tho...if you have the ability to flex your hours to nights/weekends during basics.

Thats my exact same position.

Sounds super scammy.... But are they letting people waive basics still? If so, can you be put on admin time immediately if you waive basics?

Weird, the HR person that called me said that dual-employment wasn't allowed. I didn't ask about a part-time job though because I'm not planning on going back to my previous employer anyways.
