Story Time

Took my drug test in Van Nuys today (SoCal for everyone that doesn’t live here) it was the most unprofessional drug test I’ve ever experienced in my 29 years on this planet. I’ve done tons of drug tests and it wasn’t even close how bad this place was.

I pulled down a side street riddled with homeless people (not uncommon here but this was like a mini skid row) waking up and hitting their morning crack pipes. Turned right into a parking lot barbed wired off. No clear sign displayed as to what I was even pulling into just followed my GPS. Lady sitting at a table outside with another fella no masks smoking cigs (this is relevant for later) I walked into a lobby with two Russian dudes having a full convo in their native language. Stood awkwardly waiting for them to stop. Another guy there for a test looked at me and shook his head in disbelief. Russian guy goes back and grabs someone else because he wasn’t sure if they did drug testing for the FAA. Lady comes up and says yeah we do! I said great she goes in the back to get the test ready, I sit in a chair waiting. Lady and guy out front smoking come in and start grilling me for wearing a mask.... she says “why are you wearing a mask?” I said, “ well you know it’s a pandemic, it’s not hurting me or hurting you if I wear one, so I chose to throw one on.” She laughs and says, “ well I’m a doctor (Yes, the lady ripping darts outside is a doctor) and I’ve reversed governor Newsomes stupid policy. We don’t wear masks here so you can take it off.” She also was trying to get me to sign a recall governor newsome thing to which I said, nah. Fast forward I go in the back finally and the lady doing my sample asks if I was a previous guy who had a problem with their test... great start. I do the deed bring it out back to her and she’s handling my sample where there’s a microwave, coffee machine, etc. the counters are filthy, silverware literally next to my sample. She laid a paper towel underneath the bottle. I was in shock. I kept asking her if this was the correct place and showed her the email I got and asked her to confirm this was legit. I thought I was being punked. She finishes and after I confirm for the 10th time I leave and have yet another conversation with doctor cigs before I get the fuck outta there.

Any of my SoCal applicants if you go to Van Nuys For a drug test, make sure you check and double check EVERYTHING. This place is beyond sketchy and I wouldn’t be surprised if they screwed something up or my sample was tainted. It was bizzaro world in there.

I’m debating on calling them. The “professional“ who did the test said they’ve had multiple FAA applicants come through before so as of now, everything’s fine. I regret not secretly taking pics, videos. I did put 1/4 of the convo with doctor cigs on my Snapchat story for everyone’s enjoyment haha.

I was shocked by how bad this places protocols were but I’ve been in government service for almost 7 years now and this is just the cheapest place they could contract out. It’s what the government does ??‍♂️ It’s why military installations are in poor areas. I shouldn’t have been expecting more.

Dude, my shit was just as sketch. The dude was wearing raggedy sweats and beat up Jordan’s with a scrub top over his jersey. Fucking shit streaks in the toilet. He handle my urine without gloves and I was like “ew”. This place was in the sketchiest part of town lol, but was like fuck it. I have a paper saying I took it and I saw him seal up my urine, so I felt ok.

Sounds about right! I was assuming someone else had an experience like mine. At least your guy had a scrub top on, mine was in jeans and a hoodie that said “juicy” when ya know.... she wasn’t.

I live in a large metro area (not LA, NY, or Chicago big but still big) and yet I still had to drive 50 minutes away for my test and it was in a shady location as well. The actual process was fine, the collector lady was professional but the other workers there gave me sketchy vibes.

?? damn. It’s like that sometimes. This shit was hella sketch. It was called “diamonds” and had like a diamond on the sign. I thought I was in the wrong place. When dude got my urine sealed he said “good luck on passing” I said “thanks but I don’t think luck has anything to do with it lmao” considering I didn’t eat everyday bagels or do drugs prior. But thanks lol.
 
So originally my MMPI was scheduled at the only airport in my area doing exams, and it is 60 miles away. But of course most of us here had to reschedule. Well today not only did I finally get my email to schedule my drug test, but I got one from a rep at a different airfield letting me know she is helping out with MMPIs and she has openings in mid January! AND it's at an airfield that's only 20 miles from my house!

Between this and the fact that my medical went well, I'm feeling great. I have been thinking about this job every day since I learned about it in May 2019 and it's incredible to me that its moving right along now.

Hopefully some of yall get some correspondence about rescheduling the MMPI.
