Facility Downgrades / Upgrades

2022 year ops
AUS- 694552 TCI(JAN2023)- 436.46 Level 9
BNA- 639904 TCI(JAN2023)- 447.28 Level 9
PBI-604789 TCI(JAN2023)- 449.16 Level 9
PHL- 757390 TCI(JAN2023)- 601.26 Level 11
TPA- 764648 TCI(JAN2023)- 564.3 Level 10
MSY 382305 TCI(JAN2023) - 294.96 Level 9

We at AUS get zero complexity factors because we are the only ones on this list without a crossing runway otherwise we would get a 15% boost. Between us BNA, and PBI we have somewhat similar numbers to PHL who is a level 11 but we do not get 25% Class B multiplier which has no effect on complexity. We are dodging VFR's in unprotected airspace compare to Class B so why do they get a 25% multiplier bonus for that? MSY is almost half our numbers yet we are both level 9's. Class B,C,D should have no affect on TCI bonuses. The current count program flat out sucks.

Speaking of GC difficulty, how many of you at Core-30s control pushbacks? I know a lot have ramp control. Some at my facility think we're getting shafted on complexity when we're doing the ramps job.

SFO GC pushes about 20 gates into 2 ramps and 30+ gates on to an active taxiway. One ground controller most of the time.

Can anyone explain how JFK is under the buffer for years with no downgrade but MSP and LAX get the axe
It’s because they’re under a class bravo, completely different ops count equation that’s honestly laughable if you ever see/hear about it. Bravo’s get tons of cushion against downgrades.

You forgot CVG. But thanks for posting the numbers . This shows how fucked the system is and it will never change.

Lol at Terminal bitching about Appendix A
If workload and complexities are not being accounted for, there is justification in being critical about Appendix A.
That said, yes, some Zs have been scorned the longest and have not gotten to play the game at all.

Well they are being accounted for but the debate is over the correct way to do it. I’m with you guys, appendix A is miles away from perfect. Fire away. Unfortunately it’s legitimately complicated and impossible to get consensus on what’s better or worse. Also throw in that it’s in the CBA which means they have to negotiate it with a soulless management that will never just move to increase a FPL on their own.

Dodge

1. avoid (someone or something) by a sudden quick movement.

Technically TCAS did the dodging in that one, so no multiplier-
You are correct, mistakes happen however a Class B would not have to deal with as many situations like this. A VFR squawking 1200 would not be allowed in the vicinity of an arrival. Yet class B is 25% more “complex” according to appendix A.

At 11,500, a Bravo is doing nothing except with terrain/elevation exceptions.

For those curious how these 2 facilities compare the last 5 years. Appears that one TWR is busier and other TRACON is busier than the other.
I know this is AUS, but PBIs number is 54...BNAs is 39 running probably more ops than PBI. PBI also has 15 more CPCs than BNA. The entire system is a joke but hey lets pay for another vacation for the NEB.

It's odd to see CLE downgraded since they are supposed to be absorbing the TRACONs of CAK and MFD. Wouldn't that call for an increase in their level?
Not until traffic numbers are reflected. The FAA will not upgrade on purposed traffic they upgrade/downgrade based on current traffic levels.

What's with all this talk about ZDV needing to be upgraded, from what I hear all they do is send ZLA stacks all day. ZDV should get iHop pay stacking planes like pancakes 🥞
That’s because TMU doesn’t pass to the lows any MIT for ZLA
