Government Shutdown

Refunds for sure. Though a huge portion of the population don't make enough money to worry about getting a refund an even smaller portion use the NAS with any regularity. Only difference is I'd bet the NAS users have a better idea of how to make noise in the right places to see a change.

You must not know how social programs work. I know many people who make well below the poverty level but continue to spawn children who will be receiving 5 figure refunds.

I’m not saying a strike, just imagine if we weren’t excepted employees and we shut down just like national parks or whatever. An interruption to air travel would not last long.
That’s what happened during the sequester or 2013. A week later, congressman were getting held on the ground and then we suddenly became “excepted” employees.

They should stop overpaying their taxes during the year then.

Grievaaaaannnnccccceeeee
I really wonder how this will play out. I know NATCA doesn’t want to incentivize people taking furlough, but they need to hold the agency accountable for this shit pile.
If they try to swap our leave back after already denying it...

From our Local VP:
Leave- The agency received guidance to code people for the type of leave they have been taking during the shutdown (SL, AL, credit, etc). The reasoning behind this is that they hope the government will reopen prior to the end of the pay period and they want to charge people accurately for the type of leave they took. The agency also does not want people taking leave they do not have, thinking they will get out of it by being furloughed instead. So those that took leave that did not have it, you might be coded as LWOP for those days which means you will not be getting the backpay since LWOP is a non pay status and not considered furlough. The agency is having another meeting about this today, so as more info comes out, I'll pass it along. Once we reopen, if anyone has any problems with this we can take a look at it. The new leave year starts on the 6th.

Has nobody told them that figuring out how to mess with our lives even further is a non-essential duty?

....though now that I say that, I'm detecting a high-level of naivety on my part.

And the agency will get a giant ?from the union and myself. OPM issued guidance and it was clear "No paid leave status. You will be put in furlough status" whether or not you are paid is not up to the FAA or OPM its up to congress... If the FAA truly believes it can overrule OPM and Congress they should just stay home even after the shutdown ends because they are delusional.

Straight from the Q&A that has been distributed.

TMU can end this shutdown really quick. By leaving people on the ground and delaying delaying delaying... Also when do you think ppl are going to stop showing up to work? I think starting next week more and more controllers won't bother coming in

That's basically a work stoppage/wildcat strike, very illegal for multiple reasons. (Though personally I think it's asinine that government workers aren't allowed to strike, and P.S. fuck Ronald Reagan.)

I predict they will start passing cut out bills to reopen certain agencies. I bet DOT will be one of the first.

That's basically the Democrats' plan—pass funding bills for each of the shuttered departments (except DHS) individually, so they can argue about the wall while the rest of the government opens up. Problem is McConnell won't let those bills come to a vote and it's doubtful whether the Republican Senate would pass them at this time anyway (despite the fact that the last Senate passed a clean funding bill 100-0).

Whenever this shit show ends, you can access all of your exact hours worked in one document on cedar to verify you're paid back correctly. I'm sure someone at their computer can double check me, but I believe it's under tools, and then the leave used link. At the bottom of that is a PDF icon that will show your work schedule each day.

I am fine with being un-onboarded yesterday, but shucks, now that I am in limbo between my prior gov agency and the FAA, does that mean I can go skiing for a week? Maybe snowshoeing into some hot springs in the mountains? (Never do the latter activity. It is bitterly cold, lonely, miserable hobby, and wildcats might eat you.)
