How to leave the union

Ask whoever does payroll for your building for the unknown information. If you don’t have someone in the building ask the ATM.

I’ve heard NATCA deny some of these if they are filed prior to Jan 1, so just be careful.
I've heard this too but I don't believe they can "approve or deny" your notification. Federal employees are entitled to stop there dues deductions at any time under federal law.

(Also this is from the constitution)
Section 7. A member shall stand automatically expelled if his/her unpaid dues are not paid within thirty (30) days after receipt of written notification that his/her dues are forty-five (45) days in arrears.

Hope this helps!

Never thought I'd be posting this but here we are...

The procedure to leave the union by withholding dues payments are covered in Article 11, Section 2.b. of the Slate Book. For the most part, I'm going to assume here that you've been members for one year or more. There are different procedures for first year members. Anyways.... (2) continues:

(2) All other members: March 1 shall be the annual date for all revocations of Union dues. The employee must complete and submit an SF-1188 to the Agency between the dates of January 1 to January 31 of any given year. Upon receipt of a valid revocation form completed and signed by the employee, the appropriate Agency payroll processing center shall discontinue withholding the dues from the employee's pay effective only with the first full pay period which begins after the following March 1. The payroll office shall notify the Union, in writing, of all revocations and provide a copy of the SF-1188 at the time the revocation is made effective.

I would read all of Article 11 even if it turns out to not be applicable, paying attention also to Article 11, Section 4.c.

After understanding that, there is a website on the FAA intranet that has some useful information... like, how to submit your signed SF-1188 via email set-up solely for start and stop of union dues. Access the website via the FAA Network at... my.faa.gov/focus/broadcast/attention-bargaining-unit-employees-new-email-address-union-dues

Am I to understand you don't even need to speak to the person in charge of payroll? You can literally just send an email to that address with the accompanying form and dues will stop? Really convenient for people with RDO's where your shifts barely align with office hours. Also, I was able to access the website at home so doesn't look like you need to be on an FAA computer assuming that's what you meant.

Yes, that's all you need to do.

Additionally, on the SF-1188 you only need to provide the last four numbers of your SSN. You can leave the timekeeper number blank. I e-mailed them this morning to ask about these fields on the form and this is what they told me.

For the agency name, be sure to include your facility name and organization code. You'll find your organization code on your paystub (see attached)

In summary; fill out the form, sign it and e-mail it to the address referenced in the above linked website. You can access the website from home, you just need your MyAccess login to get to it.
