NEST Is it beneficial to go to a Tower/Approach vs just Tower to move up to a higher level facility in the future?

Just received a NEST list and wondering as the title says. Eventually want to move back to a Center or higher level facility as a Controller but not opposed to the Sup route if it gets me to where I want to be. All 7s and below . In your career what have you seen?

Pick the facility with the highest check out rate, actually be successful in training this time, then worry about your next move. If you're not successful in training this time, nothin else will matter.

^ This.

Biggest thing is getting certified. Once you do, navigating NCEPT is a different animal that everyone has a different experience with. Some facilities/ATMs/FacReps value experience more than networking when ranking, some value networking more, some value location, etc. Regardless, get certified first and you can figure out the rest later.

Pick and 5-7 up/down if you want a death sentence.

Checkout rate can be a factor of many things.

so a (5-7) up/down facility is a death sentence? in what way?
Picking soon and checkout rate is definitely the number 1 thing I'm looking at
Even if a lvl 5-7 up/down has a good check out rate they likely have an average 2yr time in training, so it takes 2yrs to backfill anyone that transfers out pretty much. So a lvl 5-7 up/down might release once and maybe twice a year but you'll be fighting with everyone to leave.

If you go to a VFR tower that has a 6 month training time and high success rate then they crank out trainers constantly and it's pretty much a revolving door on NCEPT

Obviously being that you already washed once your first priority needs to be the facility with the best odds of certifying but after that look at average training time for a facility too

If it’s possible, pick a facility with a high checkout rate, good staffing and quick training time (in that order in my opinion). I was in the NEST found a facility like that and got back to a high level facility within 4 years

My advice is pick whatever has highest success rate and staffing.

Once you checkout at your level 4 or 5 you can be a supervisor at the center you just failed and probably beat some of your old trainee buddies (assuming you can manage one easy r side)

If you want to move to your dream facility in the short future, go to a tower only with a quick checkout time, high success rate and decent staffing.

If you want to be stuck and continually get fucked over the rest of your career, go to some shitty low level up/down.

As those above have said, pick the facility with the best staffing, highest checkout rate and shortest training time. If you want to dig even deeper…look at the ERR demand sheet and see which of those facilities have the fewest outbound ERRs. That’s your ticket if you’re looking to certify and have the best chance of ERRing out.

You need to certify and prove you provide some value to the agency. As others have said, go to a facility with the highest checkout rate.

Do that, and then eventually you can brag on here about how you got to a Level 12 before me.

Go tower only, be like-able, and check out. Low level tower that has a high check out rate preferably and they have such low staffing numbers that 1-2 new trainees will bring you up to release under NCEPT. That’s why all the transfers at my fac are from low level towers now. Hahah

If you want the best adviced tailored to your situation, it'd help to know your NEST list, general area of where you want to end up, and why you flunked out of your center.

The current strategy would be to go somewhere that can release easily, so likely a low-level tower.

However, that may not be the best strategy if there is a NEST lvl7 in an area where you could tolerate living forever. Right now it's the middle levels that are getting screwed, but there is nothing to say that can't change overnight and low-level towers start getting a shaft due to a policy change.
