Agreed, but the bodies just do not exist for this to happen. Hell I saw BNA was running 4 on an evening shift I can tell you right now even 3-4 years ago that was unacceptable.
Do the bodies ever exist? Just keep splitting positions off, work more overtime, and continue to do more with less. Gotta keep those fuckwits at the district level looking good!

Unfortunately for the flying public, you’re right. The ATO and agency have only shown us over the past several decades that they don’t care about fixing the staffing situation and will do anything to just band-aid it. To sit back and think about the busy sectors/airports all over the country that are short. Then when we just leave things combined, bump the rate(s) down a bit and think everything will always be okay…

There is no doubt that controllers show up everyday to be as safe as we can, but it’s clear that management has a terrible safety culture.

Management will find some brilliant idea that strains controllers more and create more holes in the already riddled Swiss cheese. Just don’t forget to sign off on your WX briefing.

If your facility is ever under the daily staffing guidelines shown on web schedules then you should be in a staffing trigger as we are not able to open enough positions to handle the traffic with an acceptable level of risk. Make the airlines eat it. Whether or not you can "handle it" is irrelevant because you are 100% increasing the risk level and we should not stand for accepting the burden of a less safe environment. We should also be on minimum 45 min breaks with an hour being the standard because we can never predict exactly when we are going to have a session that is way too much and a 25 min break simply is not sufficient to adequately recover from a busy session.

This is what drives me crazy. We can all know we are going to get our shit pushed in certain hours of the day but they will not just let us relax during slow times in the morning to get mentally prepared.

It’s absolutely absurdly bad personnel management. The morale would be so much higher if you came in to work and had an actual leader who briefed you on the day. Here take 1.5 hours now. This afternoon you’re going to have to work hard between these hours.

It’s not always possible but a lot of times it is. The lack of leadership in a job like this is just wild.

That’s what happens when you get supervisors who come to a 12 Tracon from 5 up/down, only have to get pencil whipped in one position and have no fucking clue what is going on. Had a supervisor yesterday doing a skill check and had to keep asking the trainer if they were doing it right. wtf is that?
