Before everyone absolutely shits on Support Specialists and the ability to telework, this is merely a curiosity if anyone has heard anything. please stay on topic.

PASS has made their telework stance quite clear (basically filing a national grievance against the FAA and telling them to pound rocks while supporting their members) while unilaterally fighting the FAA's Return To Office stance.

What is NATCA's stance?

My magic 8 ball says that NATCA does not really care and in the interest of not rocking the boat, choosing to remain mum on the topic of telework. If anyone has heard anything "official" or "unofficial" feel free to post/share/message me. I have texted a few people so far and pending their responses no one seems to know.

One would assume it's inconsequential. Air traffic union. They did have an opportunity to get a telecommute agreement in place (covid) but didn't. Trainees telecommuted (against the faa telecommute policy) I never saw an mou signed. I'm pretty sure there was one so finding that may be the key to the answer.

That said telecommuting for official union time would get me significantly more involved.

Tldr I agree they probably don't care either way

I’m not shocked lol
*shrugs* better hours, more time off to spend with family, sure no early retirement but hey, life is full of trade offs and you only get one go. Besides, pay has caught up with the AT payscale. Sure I missing working the planes but the misery/drama/6 day work weeks/ people who hate their home life, that I do not miss.

Don’t lie to me, we all know you miss the drama and the misery.

Well said. Trying to land one so badly idgaf about later retirement. Telework will eventually be allowed for staff support. Maybe not now but in 10 years? Most definitely. Give me that all day. Fwiw, Staff support at my facility is able to telework but she has a really bad medical condition that makes it a requirement at times.

You don't have to be at work for article 2 time. Bigger facilities might frown on being away. But smaller places don't always have the infrastructure to have "office hours."

Lotta times it all depends on how many whiny little bitches you got in your bargaining unit. Just know that you can't please them either way. If you're at work and not on position, they'll look at you crazy. And if you're not at work they'll think you're just getting over.

Our facility has always allowed “some” remote work for staff. But it is 100% at the discretion of how the atm feels. He wants everyone in the office everyday but does allow some flexibility. Our staff though, like 75% of the job could be remote, coming in is almost more of a hinderance sometimes.

PM/chat sent.

I was very impressed with PASS's response to the return to work policy change.

My first thought was no way in hell NATCA stands up like that, at least as they currently stand.

Don’t forget how hard pass came out against privatization. Meanwhile Natca leadership made a cringe video mocking people who had legitimate questions about privatization at CFS 2016.

Pass also put up posters on their boards at facilities are saying that PASS killed privatization, “dealing it a death blow” which I can’t help but feel is a middle finger to natca

I’d rather have PASS represent us TBH, they aren’t afraid to be scrappy

I know FacReps who think their natca time is free leave let alone telecommute

The funny thing is in my new job I haven't even been approached to join PASS, but I will be joining when I return to office at some point and link up with my rep, purely based on the powerful response to the WFH changes and the FAAs nearly immediate backing down on the matter. NATCA was day one at the facility JOIN OR DIE (literally "you will not be in this job long if you don't join the union") and.... well you know.

Lol. Most of the people I’ve known who said this who don’t just work the boards over my 15 year career hate working traffic, are weak, or get super aggravated with pilots over nothing

Idk why people feel the need to try to convince others they liked working traffic when they do everything in their power to not do so lol

I’m not out to convince anyone, everyone is welcome to an opinion but those that know me on a personal level are aware that I welcome the traffic. That said, on a logical level, why should I turn down a job that offers me two massive pay raises? Why should my family / family planning suffer? Why should I feel guilty leaving the boards knowing in the last 13 years or so of working traffic that I have been successful? PATCO guys trained me, my feelings of nostalgia exist for working planes not to convince anyone of anything.

It’s all good, I’m just pointing out that despite lengthy rationalizations, people see through the “I looove working traffic” talk lol

At the end of the day, despite what all these people claim, if they love working traffic, they’d simply…work…traffic…

True and I agree, though it no longer justifies the simple existence of “working traffic” to stay, when equal benefits / career progression are found in other spots within the agency.
