What was it like being an ATC during 07-09?

I was at at major airport (Denver) very little impact on traffic. Your pay should not be affected any airport, you would have to see several years of declining traffic not to hold their pay grade. this is right off historical data. you will note a higher than normal cost of living raise, the gov is trying to stimulate the economy.
also in my opinion, a downgrade would probably be the best thing you could get involved in. pending your current pay is still in the new band.
your next upgrade or new facility would place you in a much higher pay status.
here is a real life example: Den, ATC 12 transfer to LAS, ATC 10 save pay, your pay is still in the band..no state income tax in Nevada, so really a pay raise..transfer back to DEN ATC 12.. two step increase, easy money! if you dont burn bridges you could do this a few times in your career.

Wow, so technically there was a pay RAISE, that's very interesting. I don't think switching between the 10/12 facilities is doable lol but thank you for the information!
No, technically there wasn't anything. In fact, we were recently imposed the white book pay rules which screwed pretty much everyone, though that had nothing to do with the financial crisis. And there was a significant decrease in traffic for several years nationwide (possibly not noticed at individual major airports). I feel like the number was close to 30% less, but I'm not positive on that. A lot less GA who couldn't afford to fly for fun, and the airlines started consolidating flights and decreasing frequency, trying to cram them to max capacity. It was pretty easy for a while, but we're back above and beyond now.

People getting sent home for not wearing socks with boat shoes, but that was because of the White Book not the financial crisis. Stupid things like that.

Traffic is down roughly 15% in the last ten years.
Red Book was implemented at the end of the summer of 2009 so people, in subsequent years, got pay raises then (some quite significantly with double bumps and such).
