Working while in an arm sling

I’m not sure if anyone has ever seen this or knew if it was acceptable. I’m currently still in OJT and got to my facility a month ago after the academy. I need surgery on one of my shoulders that will require it to be in a sling for 6 weeks.

I know I can’t work position on any medications which would be the first 2 weeks, but I didn’t know if there was any rule about working in a sling on position.

I’m going to talk this out with my union rep too, but I thought I would ask here first. Thanks!

I’ve seen people work in slings. Also some of those drugs have like 2 week DQs after you stop taking them so you need to talk tot he flight surgeon about that.

Yep. Aside from meds, slings and casts haven’t stopped anyone I’ve seen work. Legs or arms.

Or they can always assign you to other duties. I've seen it done with developmentals.

Yah this. They’ll put you on 7-3 and have you help in the lab or something. Save some leave. At least at my facility.
