How do you know that only 500 people are getting the TOL? It hard to see that picture you posted. Was there a place you found that number?

They aren't. It's about 1,000 and you can view it on page 43 here: https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/publications/controller_staffing/media/2021-AFN_010-CWP2021.pdf

This number includes previous hires and I'm assuming another bid in 2022 so I doubt 1,000 people are receiving TOLs from this bid

It’s highly selective. Where did you get those numbers? Or are they a hypothetical example?

I'm sure the FAA has a formula for predicting by using historical numbers of the percent of people with a TOL who can actually pass the medical and background requirements. If they only gave TOLs to the target number they want to hire, then their staffing will fall short because realistically, not everyone is going to be able to fulfill all the requirements; medical, security, psych if applicable, etc

Lol I'm fairly certain the FAA has fallen short of their hiring numbers, certainly their CPC numbers for a decade or two... hence the shortage of air traffic controllers and high overtime at so many facilities.

Statistically I would guess less than 10% of people do not pass the medical/background/drug test but that's just a guess. Many will be delayed, even substantially delayed for various things but the vast majority of people who get a TOL will get a firm offer for employment eventually.

I have already been referred so, I guess I applied to the correct pool. This whole process is a sham; all too confusing and frustrating!

Each year the FAA come out with an updated ATC Workforce Plan and year 2021 was planned to only hire 500ish. Year 2022 probably about 1000.

maybe, i heard that too. Not sure how they'll go about it though. If anything, i would assume they exhaust all of BQ and give priority to those in WQ/Q, but who knows what their plan is

So will someone who got straight D’s but payed the 80 bucks for ATCprep and got “BQ” be a more attractive candidate? I’ve already kissed it up to God, but Im curious ?

Those credentials might make you look attractive in the private sector but for ATC off the street bids, you're as equal as the person who got in with a 2.0 GPA working at McDonald's. The ATSA is essentially your make or break moment

Gotta say I kinda admire it for that. I have had no family backing my adult life so I had to drop out of college because of the costs. Getting a degree isn't easy but it sure is a lot easier if you have a nice financial safety net backing you up. Doesn't mean I'm any less intelligent or less motivated than someone with a random degree.

Yes they’ll be more attractive. The FAA doesn’t give two shits about scholastic accolades.

The only thing the FAA cares about with school is if you graduated from a CTI school/program. That will allow you to be in pool 1 instead of 2.

It is very unlikely to get in as a Q. I would practice with jobtestprep for your next bid. I got Q my first time but got BQ this time.

To the FAA it only really matters if you graduated from a CTI program, this helps you with the pool you are placed in. If you didn’t put it as part of the application from the start, you can’t add it in now, as far as I know.

With that being said, are you reaching the age limit? Don’t be discouraged if this is your first time taking the test. This was my 3rd time. First 2 times I got a Q; studied my ass off and was very disappointed. Recommend you continue with your plan B and keep at it, if you get a TOL, then great, if not, you'll know you can rest. I continued on with my plan B, I been making 6 figures since I been waiting. The government will not be your savior; you’ll die waiting for the government trying to save you if you depend on them. At this point, you can pat yourself on the back knowing you achieved your goal.
