NATCA leadership on those leaving the union

Lemme' explain how this is going to work:

Non-dues paying member A can't find anyone to work for them, so they bang out. Now the shift is short and busy. So busy, nobody has had time to go on a chow run and we're all fighting for the last bag of stale Chips Ahoy in the snack fund. Oh, and look now that dumb f*ck non-dues member B, who used to call us on their way to work to ask if we wanted anything, just walked in with a fresh double cheeseburger, hot fries, and a huge ice cold coke from Wendy's. Those g0d damn burdens.

This guy from NE obviously missed his collaborative RESPECT briefings and IST classes. Thanks COVID!
Got ahold of the RESPECT briefing from the NE region. Explains the hostility

Your logic is that the controller workforce have a continually lowered standard of living? That the owner of the Global Express your working get the benefits of artificially inflated asset values that enabled him to buy that $70 million jet on the back of your standard of living? You have a pathetic serf mentality.
No that’s not what I’m saying. We arent some under paid workforce or a workforce that is being taking advantage of like the serfs. I’m saying 1. The most people complaining about inflation are the ones who most often complain about government hand outs and and over reaching government, so it’s hypocritical for them to have their hand outs 2. I think the boomers unrealistically set a cultural standard of constant raises, we still got one at least, we still have a significantly greater standard of pay and benefits compared to the rest of the country and the rest of jobs our workforce is qualified for outside of the FAA. We need to be more tactical then complain our raise that doesn’t keep up with inflation. None of us are fucking starving, well maybe AG pay. This inflation can’t last for ever and if it’s does it’s because both sides of the argument continually fuck with each other’s house of cards they are trying to build.

A serf is a manual laborer under a brutal cultural system. Are we being brutalized? stop being a fake victim. I work hard for 4 hours or less 5 days a week. And my spouse just as well as I do. Boo fucking hoo.

I think that's what the rumblings really are.
We used to be paid above average. Now, the 'great' pay and benefits are 'good'. I mean look at the level 12 starting pay in Fremon-Oakland, Islip-New York, Dulles and Leesburg VA ...it's basically a bit below the median pay for the counties. Compare that to how much more it was in the late 90s, you lived quite well house with a pool type.
Now you won't struggle if you commute an hour and budget well-but that's far from a GREAT package.

Lots of private sector get matching up to 10%, many are allowing matching to go to student loans. The biggest thing we have is the PENSION...but I doubt you can live in any of the expensive counties with that.

Also, upward mobility is draining. Start at a level 5 do your time, move up, repeat... except your just stuck, everyone is just stuck. Morale seems to be dropping because we feel stuck and less special. The last big raise happened under Clinton and we've been riding on the coat tails for awhile.

Even though your pay went up last year, you didn’t get a raise. The standard of living for controllers has been dropping for years. The purpose of a raise is not a money grab, it’s to offset inflation which the Fed wants at 2% a year. If you didn’t get raises, you’d eventually be destitute. If inflation is at 8.6% per year and you didn’t get an 8.6% raise, you got a pay cut. I was being metaphorical when I called you a serf. There are several definitions. Did you have to look up what a serf was? The only difference mentally between you and a serf, is the serf didn’t have the internet to look up what they were being called.

This is all true. Think about all these raise people are getting though. Lots of professionals are getting huge pay raises. We unfortunately have to wait for locality to catch up for some of those. Doubtful that ever happens

You’re not on mando 6 day weeks? Country club

Poke around there and see what new grads in software make. Like, early 20s people. Then come on here and run your mouth about how much you think you make. Absolutely blows my mind how little perspective some controllers have.

We have such a wide variety of backgrounds since there’s like zero education requirement that everyone’s peers they grew up with are widely different

www.levels.fyi is a good resource and is pretty mind blowing for the uninitiated. Also why I’m getting second bachelors in CS… faster than NCEPT.

There's a massive gap in wealth accumulation from anyone who had been on CPC pay long enough to buy a house 2010-2015 and now. In Miami that whole generation bought 3/2s for 300k that are now worth ~1mil. Now CPCs are in bidding wars to get 500k 2/1s an hour away from work.

Outlook is not good.

Yeah but... can you really put a value on the important things NATCA champions like Notice to Airman Missions , mandatory Vax, or the social justice cause of the day poster on your facility message board?

God Damnit Smitty!!! Natca did not spend all this money for it to be pronounced wrong, come on brother, do it for Trish!! It’s Notice to Air Missions… they kept the “air” dropped the dirty gender specific “man”

Shit I don’t even think I can call you brother anymore since I’m not in the club…. Maybe step brother now?

Started in 2010? Sheeeshhh, at least you probably went straight to your hometown level 11 and didn't get sent to a dogshit level 5 halfway across the county
I was at the highest COL tower in the country and hardshipped within 6 months of NCEPT dropping because I realized what that policy is going to do to people. Whatever path it took to get that home town level 11 though am I right

Oh man, sorry to hear you only got to start at 10 like SFO. Congrats on getting to Denver before the real estate priced you out of the market.

For real though, I wasn't hating on you so much as I was envious of the people who got in back in the '08-'11ish time back when they just sent people straight to level 12s. Back in the good ol days. Like how did they even staff the low levels places? They just banished all the washouts to the shitty low level spots? Nowadays you can get stuck in a terrible low level facility for years on end without ever getting an opportunity to advance your career through no fault of your own (ask me how I know.) It's like CharlieNovember said earlier, there's like 2 classes of controllers and it's purely based on luck as to who gets to enjoy the greatest job in the world on easy mode. I unfortunately was born a few years too late and as a result, I'd have to go to a high level facility in a low cost of living area just to be able to dream to one day own a modestly nice home someday.
