Government Shutdown

I think it’s trying to reference more than 3 days requiring a valid medical reason, meaning a DQ. Just really poorly worded.

It was in quotes as if "she" wrote it. Even then there are ways around everything as pretty much every controller knows.

The last thing we need is some big mouth spreading fodder that leads news agencies to believe we are considering striking.

I highly doubt anyone is thinking that, we all saw how that turned out last time. Are we pissed? Sure! Are we grumpy? Most of the time. But are we dumb enough to walk out absolutely not.

How many months does it have to go on before people stop coming to work? 1? 2? Maybe 3 months? I could see the situation becoming critical if this isn't resolved

Let’s seriously hope it doesn’t last past this next pay period.

I think they’ll pass a resolution by next week to at least fund the DOT. Then again, opinions are like asses and elbows—everyone’s got em.

As @RH316 said asses and elbows, everyone has em so here is mine. Id give it another 7 to 10 days. DT has to be number 1 (at least in his head) at everything including shutdowns. Secondly, I believe shit will really start coming apart as employees actually see payday come and go especially the TSA guys.

I believe that Republicans will jump ship to save themselves before going down with DT. House and senate will pass a bill, DT will veto, a 2/3ds majority vote will happen to cut DT out of the process.

I think republicans are afraid to jump ship cuz they need to have a unified front going into 2020. That’s why McConnell is saying he won’t support anything unless trump says he supports it. We shall see.

My thoughts are 1. He will declare a National Emergency in order to make the fence/wall 2. After he has done that every point the Dem's will attempt to make will be rendered moot, granted they will legally challenge it in the courts as long as they can, but at this point they will need to compromise to reopen the government. Just my two cents, granted I always anticipate the extreme of what he will do, which is what he usually does. Surprised tbh he did not do it last night.

A pocket veto takes 7 days.

Idk why people are playing up the coast guard not getting paid. A branch of the military.

@32andBelow in peacetime the CG is under the Department of Homeland Security. Not funded like the military.

I can see the national emergency bit. He already set up his backing for it with troops already at the border. Either way TSA guys have started to quit, just happy I was smart/lucky enough to keep a savings to float me for bullshit like this for a while.

I give it month 2 before controllers stop showing up for work.

That couldn’t possibly be it. It’s clearly cause the trainers are just mean.
I heard if your are a good controller and you go out drinking a lot with your trainer and crew you will have no problem there lol. I've actually heard that more then once too lol

Just a few more days and it gets real. When we all officially miss that 1st check. This is gonna get UGLY

Stay professional and don’t lose the public’s trust
Literally this. We swore an oath and we will uphold it. Personal life shit happens, but we have the trust and once it’s broken it is hard if not impossible to earn again.

I can tell you from personal experience i have already made friends at SkyWest just by helping them out of a 2 hour EDCT. It pays dividends by being professional and helpful.

Storm clouds are brewing over the NAS

Storm clouds are always over the NAS if you are mgmt. I can hear it now in a supes office somewhere... "If it ain't one thing it's another! God damn controllers, phraseology sucks, always getting lippy about some shitty procedure or flavor of the week. Coming in late to work this week and getting blasted drunk on the mid next week!"

Ahhhh I love this job! ???

The house has made no mention of trying to reopen the DOT. They did mention trying to pass funding for the IRS department of agriculture and a few others however...

They’re doing one per day. Financial sectors today, followed by transportation, agriculture etc

“Later this week, the House will vote on bills covering national parks, and housing and transportation, as well as agriculture -- which administers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, more colloquially referred to as SNAP or food stamps”

Not sure if this affects everyone or just my facility, we are able to view our W-2’s and the pay is incorrect on them. Just a heads up in case anyone is starting to look at taxes there are only 26 pay periods on the w-2 instead of 27.
