Would you be for or against having a pay differential for actual time on position and time on break?

Mostly asking people at facilities where breaks are a little more frequent (30-60mins on position before break).

I only ask because I see about half the controllers in my area will take every break offered, while the other half longer stints.

whoa, you must be super NEW.

Let me tell you something that you won't understand til yer a little older. NOTHING -literally nothing - GOOD comes from passing a break. There will be more planes next session. There will be more tomorrow, and the day after that, and that and that, until the end of your career. Do you want to be the fool working position when the next Comair or Colganair or 9/11 happens? Or when Payne Stewart's hypoxic Learjet crashes in South Dakota? Or when some rando Cessna pilot gets stuck in IFR conditions and crashes? Do you care about your heart, your brain, your stress level and blood pressure? Recooperative breaks are good. If you self righteously feel that you are above your coworkers because you skip breaks, you are WRONG. That would only make you a sucker IMO. Dont be a hero kid. Hell no you should not get paid more for your youthful ambition!

Quality thinking straight out of the DC puzzle palace. You should take it one step further and make it so we get paid not only a differential for extra time on position, but the number of planes we speak to, etc... We should create a personal CI index in addition to the facility CI index. When you have x number of controllers, with x amount of positions, you will end up working almost the same amount of time on position. The only variable will be how close to the end of your shift you will get off your last position.

 How much should the differential be? We can't leave any stone unturned

Lol, no I am not the hero type, nor do I think I’m better because I sit a little longer. Personally I don’t break much just because breaks make my day drag on more than it does when working airplanes. I was just curious if anyone cares about people taking breaks, because I heard some seasoned controllers complaining about it and it got me thinking.

I've never been at a facility where anyone skipped breaks, the first time I heard about that I was shocked. I was told like my first week that a break not taken is a break lost forever. Why would the guy that's been on less time deserve a break first? Dumb

This landing clearance brought to you by Burger King, home of the Impossible Whopper.

I have an app on my phone that I open when I poop at work that keeps a running tally of how much I've gotten paid to poop at work over the course of the year. I'm over $5000 for the year so far.

Your line of thinking is either that of a new guy that doesn't know any better, or a douche that has upper management written all over your future. Quit worrying over what others do or don't do, and worry about career preservation. ATC is not a sprint, but a marathon, and the ones that make it to the finish line in one piece are those that take every break they can whenever they can.
