Housing:

I stayed at Anatole and had no complaints except that the pool was closed for reno most of the summer. Really big apartment and couldn’t have been happier, honestly. Those that don’t mind having a roommate, Kim’s is also a great option. Most of my class stayed there and those guys seemed to develop a really tight bond and I’m sure it was nice having people around you that you could run questions by or quiz each other.

At Anatole, watch out for the family of skunks by the dumpster on the north side, especially with dogs on walks after night class. There’s also a super cool stray pit that will follow you around, but hopefully someone has taken him in.

Avoid Isola Bella.

Restaurants:

Hatch for weekend brunch. Coyote Omelet with loaded tumblers. Get the orange croissants with extra glaze as an app. Trust me.

Maples BBQ, Empire Slice House (pizza) and Pie Junkie all in the plaza district.

Hefner Grill- Good dinner overlooking the lake that doesn’t look like it belongs in Oklahoma

Bleu Garten for food trucks and beer. Neat place.

The Jones Assembly for your post eval class dinner. Reserve a tree top table outdoors and enjoy what I thought was the coolest atmosphere in OKC. Some really good musical acts also have shows there.

Things to do:

Cowboys once to say you did, then never again.

I heard good things about Fassler Hall, but never went.

The art festival late spring early summer was surprisingly awesome. Highly recommend.

I saw a handful of dodgers games in Bricktown. Get a cheap ticket and then sit anywhere. Good military discount, too.

Beats and Bites festival at a casino in Norman was cool.

Honestly, there’s a different festival every weekend it seems. Get out and have some fun. At least take Saturday off from studying and give your mind a break.

Cattleman's Steakhouse

And the place way out of town with the dirt/sawdust floor and fried okra... Ask an instructor they'll know... Or maybe someone on here remembers the name

Ken's Steakhouse? way down south. Like a 45 minute drive. Two things on the menu. Steak or Chicken if I remember. Served with fries and salad bar. It was glorious

Cattleman's is good, but there are better steaks in town. Mclintocks caddy corner from them is my local eat out steak spot these days. I go to Cattleman's if I have a craving for lamb fries, other than that I find the atmosphere in there kinda lame and I don't like not being able to make a reservation.

Honestly I'm just happy people are exploring okc outside of fucking bricktown, cowboys and jojos these days. The town has grown a lot in the last few years and the food scene is pretty phenomenal for a smaller city. There's a lot to offer here if you venture outside of bricktown thay wasn't here even 5 years ago, glad people are finally seeing that.

Cattlemen’s is such a weird vibe haha. Good steak, but not great.

I got spoiled by the food in OKC and, while I haven’t gotten to explore as much as I’d have liked, the new city isn’t even close to that level.

Also, DONT BE FOOLED, LAMB FRIES ARE NOT FRIES

check out the Paseo Arts District. Several restaurants with great atmosphere and food and some places to drink as well. My last two times in OKC I have stayed in midtown for the proximity to good restaurants/bars and things to do. Havent regretted it even though it is 20 min to Academy.

The Paseo Arts festival was a good time. Not quite as big as the main one, but still fun. Looked like some quirky restaurants and bars down there, too.

One last thing I thought of. Depends on the time of year you’re there, all you will hear about in briefings is tornadoes. I didn’t really pay attention, but that shit was no joke. There were multiple times my wife and dogs spent the night in the bathtub with sirens going off frequently. One in particular touched down in El Reno and leveled a motel.

Also, if you fancy a little bit of a drive, this is by FAR one of the best places for fried chicken I have ever had!

I’m one to talk, but don’t get caught up in your list. Obviously, you’ll have places that you’d prefer to end up, but on eval day when you’re staring down the possibility of going back home without a job, you will sit there and tell yourself how grateful you’d be to just pass and get that Oakland or NY spot that just days before you were dreading.

I hear ZOA alot on these forums. Is Oakland not a great spot to get? I live around the area currently so I'm wondering.

If you have kids out there with you I'd recommend the aquarium outside of Tulsa, it's about 1.5 hours from OKC but my kid enjoyed it.
I definitely recommend Fassler Hall as class get together.
