Back to work

Crystal MN, a level 4 with no commercial services or runways more than 3 thousand feet and change. Been in the agency a year at most, her dad was a former atm at ord and mom still works there in some capacity, from people who know the person in question.

Is this Fraud, waste, abuse or all 3?
That’s the reasoning behind my post. I’m full of anger and hate.

what’s the backstory here?

Tried to put some arrivals on a closed runway. Tower didn’t catch it either. AMAS did. One way to ruin the dream schedule is to get complacent or be incompetent. We still need to do our jobs regardless of the traffic level. And of course it was only a couple peoples fault but we cannot hold them accountable so let’s just make the whole facility come back to 5/5 cause 3 ppl can’t be told they don’t know what the fuck is going on.
Gee I thought you guys didnt need management? put 3 controllers with no over sight, guess what you get? There is a reason FLM and TMC are watching you guys. I know im going to get a rash of haters but think about it....if you were as good at your job as you think you are.....I bet the CPC's are running towards NATCA to protect themselves. this should be a lesson for all of you.. everyone needs each other.

How many Controllers does it take to screw up a good thing?.....one
I know you cant help it, how can we expect you to pay attention 5 out of 15 days? come on

I know I always find comfort knowing that my FLM is ready to step in and help me out, assuming I’m sitting on the one sector they can actually work if it isn’t busy.
Im betting they would stop you from trying to land on a closed runway
and I bet they could tap you on the shoulder when ur down the crapper. and point out 2 your not separating.

one day everyone on this forum that works airplanes will have a close call or midair. you better hope that dumbass FLM can help you before you ruin your life and lots of other lifes! you are not the hero controller you think you are.

How can they do that when behind the desk on their phones? Not all but some of them. Only the ones who were the "best" controllers.

The older supervisors can help you. The younger ones can’t do anything. In fact, I had one try to tell me to clear one out of the holding pattern right into traffic. When I didn’t do it, she tried to write me up for insubordination. She also wanted to spin a King Air that needed in trail with jet to a destination 400 miles away.
that sucks im long out of ATC, please all of you controllers think hard about the future of what you do and how you can help. be a solution not a problem. Good controllers have always been the backbone to the FAA dont let weakstick FLMs or anyone eles keep you from doing the right thing

most of you are the best of the best, you will not find outside of ATC many better. I strongly believe that, no manager or FLM or OM is going to walk though the door and solve your problems, it has to be at your level, you hold your future its slow..yes. but trust me age 50 comes fast and you will be done with this ATC thing soon, thats the best part. I know. fight the good fight its worth it...im done. thanks

I’ve probably had 15% of FLMs actually engaged in the operation that actually understood what was going on. Usually on the computer looking up sports scores, USAJobs for that next promotion, web scheduler checking their vacation coming up etc. There are good sups out there but they are few and far between. Had one not realize they split local so the controller could work a closed runway. Finally noticed it 40 minutes later when giving a brief.

thats sad, I see why you guys and gals are critical im old, retired in 2010 DEN My experience was different we were all hired right after the strike you did not become a FLM unless you had 10 to 15 years as a CPC. I could and have taken the position during a busy session, hell we had a accident at DIA in 2009 the local controller unplugged and dashed for the exit. I as FLM had to plug in and figure it out. of course the first CPC that came up I did the same to him.
FLM pay scale got a decent cut a while back that really hindered good candidates from applying. I’ve seen several centers hire sups without even an interview, taking new hires from level 6s lol.

Get your facts straight before you post. Yes, her step-dad had former involvement with ORD. Her mom does not work there at all. She was a RPO in the ORD sim for several years before being hired. While that is not ATC experience, those RPOs had some skill. I know this as a trainee at ORD. They have an extensive knowledge of the procedures and workload. Yes she started in the Agency at MIC. But she was encouraged to start there for the easy check-out and easy future moves to higher level facilities.

It was nice of you to join to defend yourself.

CPC for a year, but im not miserable yet. So Ive got that going for me.
I'm not miserable, I love the job. I'm just saying things don't look the same on paper as they do in real life. I've been in the Agency since 2005, I know how things look. But in this particular situation, what appears to look like a major scam on paper, is not justified in real life. She's got the skills to make it. I've worked ORD. So unless you've worked there too, you have no idea what you're talking about.

So you’re telling me, the best possible candidate of everyone able to release was a level 4 controller with maybe a year actual ATC experience in the agency, Who had family connections. There wasn’t a single person in the entire FAA from a higher level facility with more actual experience without the family connections making it look the way it looks? Interesting.
