TBD (Q1) 2021

Nah they were offered neighboring facilities lol.
Well that’s what I’m wondering. Because if it’s true about hardships only being offered to facilities that have less than 100% projected staffing, that actually disqualifies most of the lower levels. Wondering how hard and fast that rule actually is.

Fret not, friends, for the forthcoming January marks the 5th anniversary of NCEPT. All kinks ironed out, and all the clout is still acceptable.

As a sidebar to the other topic, most CPCs are more than happy to delay training to keep the best schedule we have ever had. And I speak this as a guy who has had ERRs in for years from my current facility. Nothing beats extra time with family, unless you hate your spouse......

They got theirs. Fuck everyone else

I get where you’re coming from, but having worked at several 12 towers, and several lower levels, the 12 is where it’s at.

Way more structured, almost all jets, almost all standard, the pilots kind of have their shit together, and your colleagues mostly take pride in performing at a high level.

I won’t say working ground is easy but it’s not any more difficult than a busy VFR tower session somewhere like DVT or VNY. With the fucked up state of NCEPT and the understanding of compound interest on our overall pay, almost anyone would be foolish not to take the 12 at their first opportunity.

I'm amused people think they can tell the ATM how to make their rankings list. Ultimately it is the ATM's facility to staff as they see fit.
Because most ATMs are too scared to make simple decisions, even one as simple as a ranking list. That’s why in about 50% of facilities the list is completely handed to NATCA, in about 40% it’s done collaboratively with equal power, and maybe in 10% of facilities at most the ATM will say “fuck you, it’s my facility to staff as I see fit”.

I don’t dislike her at all. She won ncept, good for her. I’m mad about what her situation has exposed about how even though ncept was supposed to be a change, we still have the same old shit.
I'm happy she got picked the way she did. It removed any question that NCEPT is anything other than a popularity contest. Ability, experience, time spent trying to ERR, none of that counts for anything - as many people have long suspected.

ATM's can rank people they know highly over people they don't. They can rank white people over black people simply because they're white, or men over women simply because they're men. They have absolute discretion to get the people they want in their door.

For now, at least ?

If you are trying to ERR out of a facility into a non-facility open position that isn’t part of the bargaining unit, a different non-BU FAA position basically.. There is no bid for it but it’s vacant and they will accept ERRs into it... does that still fall under NCEPT? Or can the ATM just let you go if they want? And if so where would I find something or someone to support that?

I’m mad about what her situation has exposed about how even though ncept was supposed to be a change, we still have the same old ncept doesn’t expose anything in this case other than people wanted her because of her, not because her asshole father was pulling strings.
Legit question, do any of you know the girl who was selected at ord? Where was she previous, how long did it take her to certify, is she a good controller decent coworker?
I’m honesty asking any of you. Because if none of us know her, then we can’t say bullshit like the ncept is nothing more of the same.

She was in my academy class. Like people said, parents were well-known ORD controllers (something we found out partway through) and she was working as an RPO there before getting hired. Graduated #2 out of 11, went for one of the two non-up/downs on the list (a level 4 GA facility), certified, and she was on ORD’s books literally before our probationary period was over.

Is she a good controller? Dunno, never seen her work live traffic, but she was the best in our class for certain. But more than that, having parents in the agency meant she knew exactly how the NCEPT game works and what to do about it: Go to the easiest tower with the fastest checkout time and put your paperwork in the day you certify. I’m not going to fault anyone for that. I do think there should be a level cap though, on general principle.

I believe she certified at 2 Chicago area towers before going to ORD.
