Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

Would you like to provide us with some material?
Well it’s obvious if you’ve been following the hiring trends since the BioQ. One year there’s more terminal hires than enroute. Then the following year it’s more enroute than terminal. 2017 bid had more terminal tols then enroute and this bid (2018) thus far has more enroute tols than terminal. And I’m speak OTS bid not previous experience.

So you have no actual proof of what you are claiming.

The ATO lady who came to speak to our class yesterday said that for every 4 En Route classes there is a terminal class. And generally, prior experience applicants get the terminal slots.

I know that our flight to OKC is paid and we get per diem on the travel day but what happens on the last day when your done around noon? Do they pay for that nights lodging and flight the next day or do they expect you to travel ON the last day of class? The paper work says "you are authorized by the FAA to travel....and then to your assigned Duty Station at the conclusion of training".

They’ll pay for your travel from okc to your facility, or if you’re going home first, they’ll pay for the cheaper of the two options. Also they don’t actually give you any of that per diem money until you turn in your travel receipts about two weeks in. The flight is paid for directly but checked bags and Ubers to and from the airports you’ll have to show receipts for to be reimbursed.

Thanks! But do you know if you are supposed to leave on the last day of class or can you leave the next day and get the night of the final class day paid. I'm trying to figure out when my housing contract should end.

Most people leave that day, however they will pay for one night after academy ends the same way they pay for you to move in one day before academy begins.

I apologize if this has been asked/explained, but if you drive, will the FAA pay for your actual costs up to the cost of a flight, or will you just receive the cost of the flight in reimbursement? I have an over 24 hour drive and I have the option of using hotel points. Basically is that use it or loose it or get it all monies?

I don't have the answer, just wanted to say that's a bitch of a drive my friend. Thought mine was bad at 11 hours, but I wont be complaining now. Good luck!

We just got paid per diem for our first 15 days and it seems like they just pay you the flight cost for reimbursement, which would be the max. They never checked my receipts or anything, just a couple mouse clicks.

My question is, my first pay for the regular hours is for 80 hours, what happened to the first week?

It’s been a few years so this might have changed like everything else but when I went through if you drove then you got reimbursed up the maximum of what the flight was.

So if the flight was $300 but you’re mileage ended up being $500 then you were getting $300. If your mileage was less than the flight then you got the mileage still because the flight option was booked through the government so there wouldn’t be any actual reimbursement.

Yeah what spider says is correct. My class went to travel and did the reimbursements three weeks ago. The price of an airplane ticket is what you will be reimbursed up to. I've had classmates make extra money by driving (because they were coming from nearby states) and also had classmates that lost money by driving.
