Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

I apologize if this has been asked/explained, but if you drive, will the FAA pay for your actual costs up to the cost of a flight, or will you just receive the cost of the flight in reimbursement? I have an over 24 hour drive and I have the option of using hotel points. Basically is that use it or loose it or get it all monies?

Officially they’ll reimburse the lesser of the two, which would almost always be the cost of the flight. However in practice, the people who drove in my class got an extra $100 or so above the actual flight costs in order to make it closer to even when you consider the reimbursed Ubers and checked bags. You’ll still likely come out a bit in the red if you have that long of a drive, but the good news is that you don’t need to submit receipts - they’ll just give you a flat amount depending on where you’re coming from, so you can use hotel points and not lose out on anything.

Corning is a beautiful area with lots of lakes in the region. I like the sound of Aspen also. I grew up in the Morristown area. That is a good suburban area with easy access to NYC but property taxes are high.
My top 5 are FWA, SBN, MBS, TOL and HTS. Also wouldnt mind LOU

Are these the only facilities that will be offered this year?
And I wouldnt think so. Just about every list I have seen have had some differences.

In case this is helpful for anyone: I am from the post-shutdown group of TOLs (2/25/19; Pool 2) and received a class date email this morning for June 13, enroute. Security/medical/MMPI was completed by mid-March. No issues with those that required any followup.

My POC is AN but the class offer came from a different person. I'm in the Southern region.

I definitely didn't expect to hear for another several months. Anyone else here with a January or February TOL that has received a class date?

I finished everything around 3/6 and got offered a class date in late April with only 14 days notice for the class date. Also my housing provider told me there have been a few retirements in the FAA office and the cases they were handling were handed off to other existing handlers. No new people were hired to take there cases. I'd say your timeline is right on schedule.

No, Sylvia told me I was tier 2 and a Robert said he was taking over for her. To fax my records and email others. After that, nothing.
You won't hear back until everything has been reviewed and approved by a flight surgeon then moved onto Hope for scheduling, which could take some time.

High five, we’re in the same class!

Anyone else find it ironic that tier 2 people are looking for an email from someone named "Hope" lol
That's how they really mess with you. It's probably not even a real name, just a group of office people that sit around a desk and laugh at all of us as we send emails to them daily asking for an update even though their emails say "do not email unless contacted, you will not receive a response". They just have a list of names and use a random number generator to pick a few names each day to schedule appointments for. That explains why some people are done in a just a handful of months while others take over a year to two. Us poor souls just have no clue and they take advantage for their own sadistic pleasure. /s

I wouldn't be shocked if that's how this goes. It feels like being a puppet almost haha. Sadistic.
