Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-18-ALLSRCE-57792

wrote it poorly, I will absolutely disclose it. I was just wondering if it slowed anyone down

It might. I had debt that was paid off but it didn't slow down my initial conditional. Investigator told me as long as it was either paid off, or there is a record of you actively paying it, it should be good. It's not so much as if you've ever had debt you're through.. it's more if you have debt, are you owning it and taking care of it and are you making sure it doesn't grow so large that your life is consumed by it. Most people mess up, own it, pay it, and you should be fine.

Doesn't necessarily mean that CTI and Vets didn't do good on the ATSA more so this year than previous years, could also be that not enough of them applied compared to OTS applicants. This bid was posted heavily on reddit/other sources, which created an environment where significantly more OTS candidates applied than previous years.
This is most likely the case. Think of how many people actually serve and how many of those actually apply to become a controller? Most that do are probably prior experience and they would apply to the prior experience bids instead to go straight to a facility.

I heard this new 10% between both hiring pools was actually suppose to help make it fair for the OTS folks because they favored hiring the vets in the past, looks like it’s backfiring. Just a unconfirmed rumor though.

Much to my surprise, i received a FOL on Wednesday the 22nd! My date is July 11th and is an en route class!

I honestly didn’t expect it to happen so quickly after they requested follow up files on my lasik enhancement. I figured it would be at least a week or two before I heard anything at all.

I don’t have my timeline memorized, but here is what I do remember...

TOL 12/21
CIL 2/12
I think fingerprints and equip were completed by 2/18 or 2/19
MMPI 2/21
Medical 3/7
FOL 5/22
En route class 7/11

Oh, and my region is SW, and POC is CG.
Hi! I have a July 11 start date as well. Someone had started a thread on stuckmic

To help combat the stress of waiting to hear the results of my son's application, I was running some numbers to see where the FOL process is. I think the sample size is now large enough to begin to draw some conclusions. Here's what I've been able to gather from the public posts:

Number of FOL's59Based on a hand review of the 18-allsrce thread (folks posting they have an FOL)
Estimated # of TOL's504https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/pub...ng/media/2018-ABA-200-CWP_2019_Report_508.pdf
This is from page 47, and is 240 pool 1 plus 264 pool 2 (assumed pool 2 is pool 1 size + 10%)
Percentage11.7%Number of TOL's that have converted to FOL's
Participation Rate 0.25The assumed rate of forum poster's vs non-poster's (25%)
Scaled number of FOL's236Actual total number of FOL's that have been sent based on above ASSUMPTION (not a fact)
Scaled percentage46.8%If the assumption above is true, FOL's are less than half done

I really hope this helps lower the stress level a bit. Since the first FOL's went out at the beginning of April, it's been two months. At this pace, there's a reasonable expectation this would continue for another two months before tapering off to deal with the "outlier" long lead items, such as complex clearance issues and/or medical reviews.

Wow...
I'm lucky if my mom cuts the crust off my pb&j.

Thought I'd post my full timeline for anyone looking through this thread. It's buried on page 263 but maybe it'll give someone who had credit issues like me hope.

Applied: 7/27/18
ATSA Invitation: 9/25/18
ATSA Taken: 10/24/18

Referred Status: 12/7/18
TOL: 12/21/18

Government Shutdown: 12/22/18 - 1/25/19

CIL: 2/15/19
eQIP/OF-86 Submitted: 2/20/19
MMPI Taken: 2/21/19
FAA Letter of Inquiry (LOI): 3/6/19 (Asking about my delinquent marks on my Credit Report, and what my plan to fix it was.)
Medical Appointment: 3/8/19
Drug Test: 3/10/19
Responded to LOI: 3/14/19

Phone Interview with OPM Investigator: 3/20/19

Radio Silence with no responses to emails: 3/21/19 - 5/13/19

LOI Follow-up: 5/14/19 (PoC called asking me to send any follow up info to my LOI, i.e. have I been keeping up with my payments)
Class Date Offered: 5/24/19

Class Date: 7/31/19 En Route

My HR PoC was EW, my Security PoC was RG, and I was in Texas for the whole process. My class date call came from a (405) number, but it wasn't one of my PoCs.

Just a heads up for any future applicants in South Texas - CRP and SAT are not equipped, as of this writing, to administer the MMPI. Get ready to drive to Houston on very little notice. SAT is the closest place for a medical examiner as well. God help you and your gas mileage if you live in the RGV, it's only contract towers down there.

And some advice for people with poor financial backgrounds: CHECK ALL 3 CREDIT REPORTS. If you use Credit Karma, know that they only monitor TransUnion and Equifax. I had some items on my Experian report that really threw a wrench into things. As long as you monitor those three, and have either a $0 balance on delinquencies, or a plan in place for the delinquencies (with proof you're going through with the plan), you'll be in the clear.

to address the delinquent credit issue, a few years ago I had my 14k student loan sent to collections because I was an idiot and didn't pay a dime for like 2 years and completely fucked up my credit score. I got with the collection agency and set up a payment plan and whatnot and was no longer delinquent after 9 timely payments. I do still have a sizable balance, but because I just set up autopay so I never miss a payment, I'm in the clear now. my conditional security clearance came through before my medical and I never heard anything regarding my debts. so as long as you show that you're fixing it, you should be ok.

Not even close. First off, It’s law. Second, it came about as a result of the BioQ fiasco and termination of CTI hiring fallout.

What do most people do for lunch at the academy? Buy or bring? If you bring is there a frig or some place to keep it cold?

There's a small cafeteria in the building where you take basics classes and a much bigger cafe across the street. There are a couple large fridges in the little cafe to store your lunch. Half my class buys, half brings. It's all pretty convenient. Only thing is when you're doing night classes you'll have to bring your lunch since all the food places close before "lunch" time.

Has anyone who got an email last Monday from Hope heard anything else? I emailed her back ten mins after getting her message and heard nothing back.
Same. I sent her a follow up email this week and still nothing. I think I will send her a follow up email weekly until she is forced to interact with me lol

Does anyone remember how many applied to this bid? I know it was stated much earlier in this thread but I can't find it.

You could have negotiated. Navient offered a settlement less than 15% of the original loan amount.

tbh I had no idea what I was doing. and I wouldn't have even known where to start with negotiating.
