Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-20-ALLSRCE-65607

I’ll update since a lot of other people have.

got everything done except my medical, just waiting on my clearance emails for security and then medical. I don’t know about you guys, the MMPI is the “easiest yet most nerve racking” thing I’ve ever done. Like, I feel like you have to intentionally fail it, but oh man was that a lot. Have a fear I miss clicked something and they’ll think I’m crazy or it’ll be too perfect lol

hope everyone is doing all right and thanks for all the help you guys have offered!

Everything is complete on my end, submitted my last document needed for my medical review yesterday. Now on to more waiting for security and medical clearance.

Hey guys, I have a question about the academy and if we get college credit for it. I have 5 classes left of my B.S. in Aeronautics and I asked my advisor if FAA academy can count towards college credit so I can save some money here and she asked what type of certificate we will be receiving upon completion of the academy. Will it differ for terminal or en route or is it all ATC Specialist? I may be getting ahead of myself since I do not have an FOL yet, but I thought I should get an answer before I register for more classes.

The courses you’ll complete will be Air Traffic Basics, and then either Initial Enroute Qualifications or Initial Terminal Qualifications.

I originally applied to the Alaska Flight Services bid in May of ‘19 and was referred. I started in the process of getting all my requirements done and then when this bid opened I told my HR rep that I knew I wanted to go for this instead. She told me I should just finish all my requirements with her, decline the FSS bid, and they’d all carry over. She was right about all besides the eQIP, (I guess this one requires a higher security clearance) and my drug screen expired by a few months. So basically don’t base anything on my timeline because it’s all over the place lol.
First, congrats on a date, girl!! And so soon!!
Second, I had the opposite happen. I began this process in September then just a few weeks ago AFS called me. I declined, of course, and continued my clearance for here. I'm cleared but can't get a hold of my HR rep, TH, to talk about my living and school situation. I have been a stress case these last few months!

Short Story Short: I'm still waiting. ?

Short Story Long: I can't get a hold of my HR rep, TH, so I reached out to CS. She was kind enough to give me some insight regarding school (I'm attending online college). The information may be relative to others without a date. "We are not filling the May classes yet, however, you most likely get one for May, in which would virtually onboard and would come to the academy at a later date, but that is not a guarantee because I do not know how many students TH will have to place in class." As I said, I've been unable to reach TH so I can't ask about anything further. (Her phone goes straight to VM).

Advice Needed: I took a new job JUST IN CASE something doesn't happen here (government shut down, hiring freeze.. who knows! The possibilities are endless with the federal government and I'm not going to count my chicks before they hatch). But this new job requires an academy. Would you attend the 4-week academy or would you bail out and go back to your last job (yes, that is an option for me) and just chill while waiting for a date?

It's always good to continue to live your life while waiting for government jobs, and when the time comes make the decision based on what's best for you. As a frame of reference, it took me over 3 years to get the state job I have now thanks to hiring freezes, shut downs, etc - and it was 2009 when I first applied. They called me out of the blue and said "a week from today there's an academy starting."

You don't want to hinge your entire life on a "maybe," because you could potentially be waiting a long time. However, with the way this process is moving you could also get a call tomorrow to report in two weeks.

As for the academy - you do realize it's 4-5 months, not weeks, right?

That's what I keep telling myself, not to expect anything from the FAA and just to hope for the best. That's why I applied and interviewed for the position I have now but it's starting to feel like a huge waste of time.

The academy I'm referencing is for my current position with the state. It's a four-week academy that is required to keep my job. I tried asking my boss to push it back (to stall in hopes of getting an FAA date) but it's not possible. I just don't know if I'm overdoing it just to quit in a few months ??

If the job allows you to live comfortably for the time being, I'd do what needed to be done to keep it. I wouldn't suggest burning a bunch of bridges you might need in the future, because even passing the ATC training isn't a guarantee. I'd love to tell my job to shove it at the end, but if I do things the right way I'll be able to come back at any point within a year and keep my seniority, pay rate and everything else.

You need to do what's best for you, but consider every avenue before making that choice because nothing is set in stone. We really don't know how this current Federal administration is going to handle things, especially those that might cause setbacks or delays.

Hey guys, I have a question about the academy and if we get college credit for it. ... what type of certificate we will be receiving upon completion of the academy.
The courses can count for credit, you have to sign up with their accreditation contractor and pay a nominal fee. Not sure what certificate it is, I glanced at the brochure and it seemed targeted at technical/associate degrees but it's worth looking into. You can call OKC Student Services to get more information.

Did I miss something or is this still the most recent open bid? It’s been over a year and I’m just trying to make the most of my opportunities before I turn 30!
Just as a heads up. You just have to apply for a bid before you turn 31 (like myself). Hopefully that helps ease some stress knowing you have a little more time

Does anyone have any tips for getting an MMPI scheduled in the Atlanta area? I've reached out to every facility within about 2 hours of me and have been completely ghosted by everyone except one who put me on a waitlist but has no clue when they'll be scheduling appointments.

Keep trying and look even further, i drove Almost 10 hours round trip in the same day to take mine. Otherwise I would have had to wait 2 months to take it. Mmpi not something you wanna sleep on especially if you end up getting tier 2'd

Alright, I went ahead and reached out to the remaining facilities in GA as well as select facilities in EVERY bordering state. We'll see if anything sticks to the wall.

I called and took mine two weeks ago at the Hampton center.
