Beginning in January, federal employees and annuitants enrolled in FEHB will pay 13.5% more, on average, toward their health care premiums, according to data the Office of Personnel Management released Wednesday.

The significant premium increase for FEHB plan year 2025 follows a 7.7% jump for 2024, and an 8.7% increase in 2023. OPM said the increase reflects changes in the market over the last year, and generally aligns with other programs in the commercial market.

“The premium increases are due to the impact of price increases by providers and suppliers, increased utilization of certain prescription drugs and behavioral health spending,” OPM said. “Industry-wide cost pressures affect FEHB and PSHB rates similarly.”

In dollars, FEHB enrollees will begin paying an average of $26.10 more toward their biweekly health premiums in 2025.

Accounting for both the participant’s and the government’s shares of insurance costs, FEHB health premiums for enrollees will increase by 11.2% on average, when weighted with the government’s contribution, which is increasing by 10.1%.

You know, by and large, this job really fucking sucks now.
I am expecting my reinstatement list any day now and every single colleague, friend, or person I know in the field says to not come back. Everyone is looking to move on with their career in anything but ATC. Talking to planes is the best job in the world but not at the expense of your health, family, or life.

We’re literally taking pay cuts at this point to be miserable. All in the hopes that we’ll somehow have enough money to actually stop working at 56 which I think is going to be tough for a lot of younger controllers unless there’s a drastic increase in pay. $1 million in your TSP is going to be useless in 15-20 years. And if our wages continue to fall behind inflation, our pensions will maybe cover an electric bill by the time we’re forced out. We’re being royally fucked and nobody gives a shit.

Only you know what is best for you.
Are you most of the way to retirement?
If you are early career, what other marketable skills do you have?

8 years as a 2152 (not including contract tower time), 11 service years total (including other fed jobs prior to ATC). Lots of marketable skills: doing TERPS atm (FAA), interfacing and briefing senior management to include Secretary Pete (and others), and some FAA intelligence stuff (TS/SCI).

I love the job, just the scale of life and compensation is finding somethings wanting. The prestige of this job alone will not replace my health/family/potential kids.

11 years of Fed time, 8 of which are good time?
Sounds like you are in the spot to either cut bait and GTFO or move to a job that counts as good time.
