How do you figure? The legality of it is murky as best. It’s not taxes and the debt is held by the dept of education which gives him a lot of power over what to do with it.

Has literally never stopped any of them before, and they've had virtually zero repercussions for any of it in at least 90% of the districts they hold.

Biden can forgive student loans with an EO. That’s how trump suspended payments and interest.

Biden literally b*tched out progressives in a conference call saying he doesn't believe in issuing executive orders. I doubt we'll ever see anything meaningful from Biden in the form of an EO. Or legislation. Or anything else.

In all seriousness, Biden can promise that all he wants but it's a congressional issue and I seriously doubt it'll be passed.. at least to that amount. Better off to just keep plugging away at them.

For now federal loans aren’t accruing interest and I don’t have to make payments until 1/31/2021, so my money will go into a savings account until then. If $10k of forgiveness looks likely depending on the senate runoffs and Biden’s willingness to do what he said, I’m not paying another dime towards them (I have under $10k). If it looks unlikely forgiveness will happen then I can dump all the money i put in my savings in there and cut down the principal before interest restarts.

"The Constitution gave Congress the authority to control property of the government, like debts owed to it," she wrote.

And Congress, Merrill said, granted the Secretary of Education, who works for the president, "the specific and unrestricted authority to create and to cancel or modify debt owed under federal student loan programs."
