N90

" Based on this priority, the FAA had already renewed its focus on addressing staffing at N90 and sought the needed approval from other agencies on personnel policies and resources to include, but not limited to, local-area hiring."

They did mention the possibility of it in the natca email from the NEB
You and I both know there is no shortage of people willing to go to N90, they simply need to be given the chance.
Yes, the email stated a number of things were in the works that would allow for OTS candidates to be placed at N90 in the future, but given everything we know, that is a doomsday, last resort, scenario. With the volume and "success" of the prior experience bid and the fact the '8 and above' limit hasn't truly been lifted, the odds of an OTS bid (not to mention a 50 mile radius) is in the neighborhood of 0%.

I agree with you. Just saw that in there. I honestly wouldn't be surprised at this rate if I don't get selected and they bring out that bid. NATCA and the FAA seem to care more about new hires than their current employees

They just sent us a survey for a local hire bid asking if we had ties to the area when we came to N90. Don't know if it's going to happen or not, but it's far from zero validity.
Alright, I guess I should clarify.
My zero validity comment was more in reference to the timeline (10 days away) and the fact no one in the FAA has been given any timeline/expectation/notice of the possible event. With no notification and the current facts we have (8 and up still in place, 89 selected off the prior experience bid), the odds of the FAA turning down 52 referred prior experience new hires and all 7 and below ERRs to open up a new OTS bid for new hires with no experience without anyone being aware beforehand are incredibly slim, but we all know how the FAA and logic don't exactly go hand in hand.

In terms of N90, let's be honest, anything is possible.
My mouth about hit the floor during the staffing TELCON when NATCA admitted to having the discussions of Article 46-ing previous N90 CPC's against their will back to N90 (Full disclosure - they said they would try everything in their power to prevent that, but didn't deny the possibility). From there it's a slippery slope which could set it's sights on article 46-ing LGA, JFK, and ZNY controllers to N90.

I could open my email tomorrow and see "N90 offers OTS new hires $1,000,000 reward upon certification to attract the best and brightest" and I'd shrug my shoulders and go yeah, makes sense.

Despite looking at all the historical data of OTS new hire success rates or talking with current employees, I'd fully expect the FAA to do an OTS panel at some point. They need a 'control' for their new N90 class at the academy. They have to be able to say, prior to our N90 specific class at the academy, success rates were X% for OTS hires, now they're Y%.
If you do get any concrete info down the line, I'd definitely love to hear about it.

In case anyone is watching this that also applied and is curious, the guy I know selected was at about a 6-7 level RAPCON for 6 yrs. He is a pretty bright guy so I hope he does well there

I hope they all do well. I told my friend that's a hell of a first facility to be at for the rest of his career. I'm optimistic about checking out. Glass is always half full

You have to go into this positive or you're already done. Especially at a busy facility. Show up, work hard, learn as much as you can and hope it's enough!
