N90

OTS bid for local residents?

There was a rumor a few weeks ago of an OTS bid for local residents of N90:
N90 Local Hiring Bid Sept 9 2017 • r/ATC

Does anyone here know if there's any validity to this and if it is really set to occur in September?
It's true. Or will be at some point, not sure when the job announcement is supposed to get posted though.
CTI grads living near the Long Island area are the target applicants for this.

I hope they all do well. I told my friend that's a hell of a first facility to be at for the rest of his career. I'm optimistic about checking out. Glass is always half full

I hope all 89 certify. Then maybe I can get off this god foresaken Island. When people talk about climate change raising sea levels, living on Long Island makes me want to start a coal fire.

Will the prior expmbid directly to N90 start at AG pay then bump to D-2 after the academy? That's how I understand it

They shouldn't go D2. It should be D1 and if it's like the old VRA hires like me D1 starts after about 2 weeks at the Academy. Then when you hit real D1 you get a 6% raise within the band, then D2 when you hit 50%. I hope for their sake it's not AG pay. I mean it's still $50k here but I was broke as shit on D1 pay which is $70kz. GI Bill saved my ass.

Oh yea that's it. My bad, lowest D band is the verbiage. We didn't have D-1 that's why it was stuck in my head.

Made an account just to reply to this comment. I got a TOL to N-90 a few days ago and accepted it. Wanted to thank you for your unwavering support :yay:
Hey , it got you to join, so welcome 😎

And you're right, it was a little out of line. A 66% wash rate would put it at more like 60, not 70.

Best of luck, those controllers deserve at least one weekend in their career.

No doubt the wash rate is high. I got hired from the 52 week bid. It's kinda funny that after not getting a TOL for years, the first one I get, I'm told I have 0 shot at making it lol. I still have 7 months active duty left. Anyone know if this TOL will prevent me from getting another one? Specifically, the prior bid that closed in May? Wasn't sure if you can have more than 1 at a time or not.

You gotta want it! I believe if you want it bad enough you can make it! Know your shit, keep your mouth shut, and have a positive attitude..and most importantly keep your CPCs happy, bring coffee and donut is always a plus hahaha..

I completely support the agency wasting money on new hires straight to N90 just so they can wash and go to the Nest and clog up training even more. Who doesn't?

I was a prior AF new hire and I checked out at minimums. In fact 3 out of the 4 in my class were prior AF new hires. The only person who washed out was the transfer from a level 12 Center and that was in the lab.

Good for you. But the odds are not in the new hires favor. The agency is having to slam people in there right now to fill the void and I'd bet 85% don't make it.

In the 3 years I've been here I haven't seen a single Prior experience new hire wash out but at least 6 faa transfers in my sector alone. Yeah, where that prior experience is from will make a difference though. If you're coming from White Sands Missile Range you might as well not have experience. Hopefully they're not doing what they used to do and won't send people whose only experience is tower.

Does the Islip area get many washouts? I knew a girl who washed out of there a while back but she had almost zero ATC experience going in. And I don't think she wanted to be on Long Island.
