Schedules

Just out of curiosity, as an academy grad, are these typical schedules? does training happen at all hours? Ill be going to OKC in a few months for enroute. just wondering what I might be looking at if I get through the academy.

At my facility the 6 day weeks begin as soon as you get certified on FD. That's usually before you even start you class/lab so you'll do 5 days in the classroom and then Saturday OT working FD. Once you're on the floor you'll pretty much work a week of 7-3 then a week of 3-11 rotating with an OT day of FD. For some reason the FAA says you're not allowed to train on OT. You won't work mids til you're CPC.

If you're not at a 24 hour facility, you won't work openers or closers during training. Each facility will be slightly different (Ex. ZME is busy on Mids). Typically our training shifts will be between the hours of 8am and 8pm (0800-1600, 1000-1800, or 1200-2000). There's no sense in having trainees work when there's a greater potential for slow traffic.

As far as my enroute facility, the typical schedule is:

eve (1420--2220)
eve (1330--2130)
day (0700--1500)
day (0600--1400)
mid (2210--0610)

Go home, take a 3 hour nap, go to work. Take a 2 hour nap at work. Go home and get another 3 hours of sleep and you're awake at 10am with a normal amount of sleep.

And are there any rules saying no camper vans in the parking lot???

So does this mean its an FAA wide rule??? This will ruin my planning on living around 45 mins from a facility.
I don't know many jobs that are okay with you going outside on the clock and sleeping in a vehicle. I'm sure some facilities can get away with doing stuff like that but I don't think many managers would be like sure go out and sleep in your car for a few hours. The CBA says leaving the facility for a short period of time should not be unreasonably denied. Then it says midnight shifts breaks should not be longer than breaks on a normal duty day.

When we are given a break we are given a be back time. So long as you're back at that time they don't care what you do or where you go.

Each place is different. I guess what I'm saying is that your not entitled to that so plannin gyour living arrangements around the ability to take long naps in your truck probably isn't a solid plan

That 1436 shift is blowing my mind. Why not just have your mid start at 2200?
Or have 1430-2230 with the mid starting at 2215?

If you people who aren't even at your facility yet this worried about BREAKS ... I would place more effort on your Plan B when you wash out because this is the last thing your facility wants to hear/see out of you. Your priorities are definitely fucked up if this is what you are thinking about.
