Support Specialist

Depends on the facility...but in general:
Review MORs/EORs,
Classroom instruction,
briefings,
training,
facility audits,
serves as contact for airspace/procedure questions from outside facility,

Just curious if a controller takes a staff support or sup job, then decided it's not for them, how would they become a controller again?

To cover all the newspapers, books they read on the clock, plus the chow runs they go on everyday.

It's the exact same pay-band as a CPC.

Last summer there was a couple Staff Support people that were selected through NCEPT back into a CPC. So they have been incorporated into the process.

How were their releases handled? According to the facility’s category?

Im thinking of putting in for a staff spot myself, since all the talk is that we may be sitting in our respective facilities for a while for NCEPT. Why not move on for me at least and make more money and wait it out?

Previous facility I was at had a Staff support specialist that was still a dues paying member, so am I correct in thinking that if one went back to being a controller they would retain their seniority if they are still a BUE as a SSS?

I'm already guessing you can do it to get around NCEPT. But Ive always been interested in a staff job, to me I wouldn't mind putting in a few years as a support specialist, then going back to controlling just to have it on my resume. I'm not talking about going someplace on a staff bid then turning around and trying to ERR on the next NCEPT panel.

June 2018 NCEPT:
Support Specialist
The NCEPT panel reviewed and selected the first Support Specialists requesting to transfer to a CPC positon at an Air Traffic Control facility under the NCEPT process.

August 2018 NCEPT:
Support Specialist
The NCEPT panel did not review or select any Support Specialists requesting to transfer to a CPC position during this selection meeting.

Not exactly sure how their release criteria worked, but probably just work out a date between the ATMs and the person selected.

Our staff support specialist are not considered "good time" at PCT.
Which makes zero sense because some of them still maintain currency on positions. So they've met all the requirements to be eligible for good-time. I don't know if it's an FAA thing or NATCA thing...but NATCA has zero intention of trying to help them earn good-time even though NATCA represents them.

I agree. The last person to take a staff specialist job at PCT is a good friend of mine. His job is not good time. Still a bargaining unit job but not good time. They weren't going to let him stay current but he asked to stay current so that he was still eligible for overtime. He does not receive any extra differentials as uscolt suggests.
