Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-20-ALLSRCE-65607

I'm fortunate enough to have a very cheap living situation, paid off cars, and some cash saved up (and adding as much as I can for now). I dont plan on doing anything but putting 100% of my energy into the academy classes. I'm about to turn 30 this year, i have student debt, and not many career options left in life. I'm taking no chances on letting ATC slip through my fingers. Failure is not an option. ?
Well said sir. We’re taking about a multi-million $ career. Very difficult to get hired, get through screening/training process. But an excellent deal once those hurdles are cleared.

So curious, is anyone else considering holding a part time job while we do online basics? I think I remember a discussion about whether or not we could and the consensus was it's allowed. I'm in a position where my hours are flexible enough I could probably make it work but just wondering if anyone else was in the same boat.
It's unfortunate that you couldn't do "full-time," but I did read it said part-time only. At my job we can do shift swaps so I could do the entire 40 hours in 2 days - it would certainly help me avoid the massive pay cut for a little while longer considering I wouldn't be getting per diem at home either.

They can’t control what you do when you’re off

Same here not going to go through all these hoops just to not take the academy seriously. That's priority numero uno lol.

That's nuts lol 40 hours in two days? Is that a typo ha. All depends on the actual hours for the online basics. In theory I can work my 40 hours by working a couple hours before and after class. Something I'll figure out later.

Not a typo, it's got one of the most flexible schedules you could ever have. Many people do two 16 hour days then have four days off, some do 4 on 8 off, some do 7 on 7 off, some even work 6 months straight then have 6 months off to go hunting, run their business or for travel.

Is anybody aware of how the MMPI gets “cleared”? Is it the flight surgeon that clears it during their final review or is it already cleared before it reaches the flight surgeon?

I’m considering it. I might take a few days off when it first starts but it shouldn’t be a problem.
I’m tempted to keep working my full time job if I can manage to get a schedule to work out. But, if I get into that May en route class I’ll be able to take my vacation weeks then. If it doesn’t work out then I’ll be surviving on my savings until out of OKC, which is what I’m planning on and is absolutely worth it IMO.

From what I’ve heard, I think a psychologist goes over the results and then sends the flight surgeon the all clear or tells him your tier 2’d. But you can’t completely clear medical until you’ve cleared the mmpi

The computer does a preliminary scoring, then a psychologist interprets the scores and flags anything they think is important. Doesn't take long at all. Then they forward their evaluation to medical.

You and me both. If I don't become an ATC it will not be due to my lack of effort. 100% learning and training. If basics are still virtual by the time we go, I'm going to treat it as if I'm OK.

Do you love your father? When I took it I wondered about these questions. Like what if you don’t cus your dad is a POS that beat you.
That's why it blows my mind the FAA doesn't automatically sit you down with a psych after testing like almost every other agency that has you take an MMPI does, because some answers require an explanation. I've always "failed" them because when it asks if you love your mother or father my answer is no - I've never met my father and my mother and step-father were abusive. On top of that, with the job I have now I "failed" the MMPI because I said I didn't drink, and when it asked how much it took me to get drunk I said "2-3 drinks" which they felt was a lot, even though it was the lowest answer. Generally, after five minutes of sitting with a psych they make a note and the process moves on.

Instead with the FAA, I get to be delayed for a few months.

How were you able to answer a quantitative question when the MMPI only comprises of yes or no answers?
