When "the government" is also your employer, it's a different story. You can very easily forfeit your job, right to work and such.
Aside from that, yes you have "freedoms" and "rights", however you have those because of the society you live in, and part of that is promoting the general welfare of said society, as spelled out in the constitution-
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity...."
So yes, while you have freedom, it's also your responsibility as a citizen to do things for the general good of the population. Dod you register for the draft? How would you feel about being sent to fight in a war you don't agree with? Still a part of the social contract. Jury duty? Part of the social contract. Etc etc etc.
