NATCA leadership on those leaving the union

Amtrak sucks because it relies on the private rail companies allowing it to use their tracks, and freight has priority. Amtrak could be great, but a certain segment of government/population (the people of the land segment) refuses to entertain the idea that their should be kther transportation options besides a car or plane.
And this explains why their tracks are so bad (speed), they’re always late, they have an abysmal safety record? Isn’t the point that most things run by the govt are grossly inefficient?

They are a private company with the government owning all the shares.

For all of the faa issues it is nowhere as bad as the rail system.

Also, they made 2.something billion last year, but again that goes to private parties not back into the system or to the workers.

It should just be completely nationalized or completely private as a solution

Uh, yes to some extent. Amtrak doesn’t own the tracks. They have to use the freight companies tracks. The freight companies prioritize their freight trains over Amtrak passenger trains. As for their abysmal safety record, this is the first I’m hearing of that.

AA Union now telling crew to use normal security as a job action to prove a point by delaying flights.
Work action is seeming sweeter by the moment, and I'm starting to ask myself if trading privatization for the ability to inconvenience the public to twist management's hand into giving us more money might be worth it.

Albeit reality is more likely that we'll privatize AND still not legally allowed to take job action.
If you think we are going to privatize and controllers will get paid more money, you're delusional.

No private company is going to pay 200k/year to a high school graduate. No private company is also going to honor a pension worth 40% of that for 50 years.

The government took away that option about 41 years ago.

Well they just 'prevented' a strike in the private sector. I get the government is the 100% share owner, but these are NOT government employees. After this debacle I see no reason we would want to privatize, as striking and fighting for funding were some of the main issues. Well, looks like that argument is gone as this would set the precedent for any future legal action. In addition to the post above, we have negotiated off of the gs scale and are well paid for our job. I'm not sure where the current ncept debacle started

(For the newbies the union guaranteed privatization was going to happen and supported it so we'd have a seat at the table in 2018?/2019?)

To expound for the new people. From what I understand, we were/are friends with Shuster. He comes to NATCA and says he is going to introduce legislation to privatize ATC. Asks NATCA what need to be in the bill for us to support it (or atleast not publicly fight it?). He puts those things in the bill, and NATCA is left to either support it, or fight it and burn a massive bridge in Congress.

Oh so we were in a tough spot? I never knew any of the upper workings

How is that a tough spot. Not much of a friend if they want to sell you.

Guess the solution is to be ok with the fact that regional FOs make more than we do

You've brought up what you see as a problem. Before addressing that, we should think critically for a moment. Just because there is a problem, does that necessarily mean that privatization is the only solution to that problem?

Your problem: Regional FOs get paid more per flight hour than low level facilities in the FAA.

That's awesome for them. They also only get paid for every hour the airplane is flying. Do you want to only get paid your hourly wage only when you work traffic? They don't get a pension. They are usually 50k in debt because they have to pay for their own training. Also, they were hugely UNDERPAID for literal decades before this. The companies that are now paying them what they deserve (for the time being) only did so after there was no other option.
