Terminal Class pass rate

Was there any amount of studying or anything that could have been done differently for this to be avoided? Reason that I ask, is I have no prior experience and am about to enroll in the academy in the coming weeks.

I've seen a few of your posts and I honestly understand you are just trying to prepare yourself for what you'd hope is the beginning of a long and rewarding career.

In all honesty and I say this with zero malice against point65 but get off here. Sure you can prep somewhat but really? Its like wanting to join the military so you start hitting the gym, taking shooting classes and sleeping outside. Now all you have is bad habits someone else has to break and no one likes a know it all.

Show up to MMAC like a fresh can of untouched play-doh ready to be molded into whatever the faa wants. If you're OTS, take it serious and study, give it your all.

At the end of the day this job ain't for everyone. Some make it some don't, period. Honestly the few that I've run into that "force" this career on themselves (ie not being able to do the job well but slipped through the cracks) walk into the door everyday sweating bullets trying to come up with ways to dodge traffic / certain positions / call in sick on weather days ect ect. They live a life of misery and get trash talked every day.

Getting on here and psyching yourself out because you keep reading about how many didn't make it ain't going to help you. Relax, enjoy your time and meet some cool people along the way. Focus on your task and if you got it, you'll be fine.

Just go in and studying hard. You do not need any prior knowledge as they will teach you everything you need to know to pass. They almost prefer the 0 knowledge because this way you don't have any bad habits or think you know it all. Stay focused and study you will do fine

That whole reply was gold. Hard to impress that on someone brand noob tho. "You don't know, until ya know".

I have often thought about those you reference who force the career on themselves. "The pay and benefits are good". When I was a young military controller and we sat around Keesler break rooms watching "Pushing Tin" I used to laugh at how over the top it was. I'd say .... No one would play around w live traffic like that! Or... No one would just mock "Dr. Freeze" , and no one would really actually act like Doctor Freeze!!!

Turns out, almost everything but the stupid wake turbulence bullshit is pretty spot on. It would be hell on earth to be one of the scared people. In center they can go hide in TMU at least. Talk about a hard way to make an easy living tho when you're scared every time there is a thunderstorm or traffic push. You only live once and get one heart

While I haven’t completed the academy yet, I feel there is a major point a fellow OTS person could give out and hopefully instill some confidence in this choice of joining the FAA.

1. More people pass than fail. Why not hype on those stats instead of looking at those who fail?

Try your best not to be afraid of failure. We will all be making mistakes and “failing” at some point for one reason or another.

As an example, if you fear tripping, you’ll take extra caution not to trip and then you’ll overcompensate and then end up tripping. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy. Go in expecting you’ll pass and put in effort worthy of passing.

As has been said, this job isn’t for everybody and I hope to be among those whom it is for. Put in your best and enjoy the ride, that’s my advice.

What happens if you get picked up on something like an n90 or c90 cpc bid and then fail tetra? Is it like sorry you moved all your stuff already and signed a new lease but now you have to give us back the move money and go back to your old facility?

Don’t sign a lease before you know you’re moving...

Apparently there was a last minute change to the evals and no one was prepared for it. Two already failed... hopefully the rest do well today.

What did they change last min? Was this class new hires or transfers?

Easy to say but from what I've been told it isn't like you go to okc and see if you pass and then get a start date at the new place. It's either go to the new place and then go to tetra and then back to the new place, or go straight from old to okc to new.

You go from old to okc to new. You get CoS leave and any additional leave you want to take from OKC to new. No different than new hires finding out where they’re going a couple days before they leave OKC

Your current facility can hold you for up to 3 months after TETRA. If you sign a lease in Chicago or New York before finishing TETRA, that's a pretty interesting decision.
