Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-20-ALLSRCE-65607

I sent a decline this morning given the 5 day deadline they gave. Given COVID, the HR POCs are unresponsive. I really can't take this without some flexibility in managing the process between TOL and FOL. I want to control, but I am basically not risking my current job (letting them contact my boss about a security clearance) without some certainty over how the medical portion of this would be handled. My particular position is highly unusual for an IT/tech job and I would be unlikely to find something else like it.

There is a space below the accept line to give reasons for declining. I gave them. I doubt anything will come of it as the FAA has let me down a few times already, but we will see what happens.

Funny thing is I absolutely would have taken this opportunity if they gave me a TOL during the last bid, as then I would be more willing to risk my position! I'm BQ, they should have, but apparently some BQ Pool 2 didn't get it last time, and I was unfortunately one of those.

Also the compensation where I'm working now is definitely higher than max comp in ATC (including COL adjustments) by a long shot, and the cost of living is also relatively low where I work now (this is definitely not NYC or SFBA). I also have room to increase it substantially at this company.
Damn, fwiw I know for a fact they didn't call my boss in the dod either bid I got picked up on.

All of my previous employers were mailed paperwork to fill out. My current job was sent paperwork as well. Good thing I had told them a week beforehand. ?

do they go by the original information on usajobs or is that a separate document we turn in? and how far back do they go?

No. You have to fill out a very long form for the background check listing all your previous jobs and the dates amongst about a million other things and that is who they contact... I can't say for certain (the FAQ probably say) but I think some parts of the background check go back 7 years and some 10

There will be a long security section to fill out eventually. They went back 10 years for Jobs and verifying previous addresses.

Once I got my TOL, they were very quick to tell me that I needed to resend my contact form due to an issue (which I did), And now I’m still waiting on a confirmation. When should I start worrying?

Oh
I highly recommend looking at the FAQ on this site. There is a copy of the SF86 and what they ask for. Start getting all your info now, it will help in the long run and maybe save you a day or 2 of searching.

After 14 days of sending it. I’m waiting too, it’s been 4 days for me but the email said to give it 14 days and if you haven’t received anything yet, call them.

Oh okay thanks. I find it funny they were very fast to tell me I did something wrong (literally within an hour) but then they will be super slow to confirm that my resent document was good ?

Yeah, I’m sure they’re also pretty busy considering HR is still working from home.

I just wanted to post this here for the ones that got and will soon receive a TOL!!

in your medical, remember your BP needs to be below 140/95!!!
I mention Blood pressure because no one really knows what theirs is until it’s checked.
AND for all we know we might do medical sin February, who knows, which then gives you more than enough time to drop some points down. Good luck

Well if you didn't mess up they probably would have sent you a confirmation. These HR reps are dealing with hundreds of people at different parts of the process. Now you are at the bottom of their to-do list. They have no reason to spend extra time getting you through the process. If you are literally the last person to make it to the Academy from this bid in 2023 it doesn't make a difference to anybody. At the moment, they have more people than spots at the Academy.

So in my excitement, i turned in my TOL acceptance via phone, then turned it in on my laptop like they said in the email. No response yet.

No confirmation here yet as well, turned in thursday night.

Question about the background check for those who have been through the process:
When listing addresses of residences do I just make a best faith effort? There was a period of time in my early twenties where I moved a large number of times in a 2 year period; no real rhyme or reason to it. I have very little documentation or ways to reference the dates I moved and for a few places I'm not even sure if I have the addresses anymore. I was mostly subletting / renting rooms with roomates for a few months at a time. Will this be a problem? I've also spent considerable time overseas is this likely to slow me down?

I used to be a recruiter for a military branch so I had to help my applicants fill out SF86s all the time. Put in your best effort, ensure there is complete continuity for the last 10 years, if you need to add any comments there is a comment section for each residence that you list where you can elaborate if you would like. Transparency will help you

The whole point of the sf86 is to make sure you aren't a terrorist, spy, crazy, a drug addict, or financially screwed to where you might be bribed to do crazy stuff. If you meet these basic requirements then you'll get the clearance

Just keep in mind they will run your credit (and probably look at your addresses on the report) and criminal history so I wouldn't omit anything there in regards to stuff in collections and so forth. I would recommend looking at your own credit report (you can get one at annualcreditreport.com for free) and see if you have anything in collections or overdue, that way you can either take care of it or put it on the sf86 so if you end up forgetting it they don't flag you for potentially concealing info

Thanks for the quick response! This all helps a lot and nice to hear there is a comment section. Also, latenight GSL with Tastosis was the best.
