Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-17-ALLSRCE-53474

I am aware of the group and trust the validity of the numbers as all the ones that have been publicly shared to this point are accurate.
What this means for both groups...
302 Vets... high percentage chance you will receive a TOL. 100% chance for the Vets who scored in Band 1 (80+% of Vets scored in Band 1 last AT-SA). With only 452 CTI-ers in the high band, the remaining pool 2 Vets will be hired before the pool 2 CTI-ers.
452 CTIers who scored in the High Band (Band 1) will get a TOL (if you are a CTI and did not receive a TOL, you did not score in Band 1, retake the AT-SA for the next bid).

Given the FAA intends to hire ~1,400, they have typically had a +/- of 10% in previous panels and they look for natural cut offs. Natural cut offs are all 452 Band 1 CTI's and 302 Vets (754) for Pool 1. It will all depend on how many Band 1 Pool 2 applicants are left. By law if they hire 754 from Band 1, they must hire between 617 (45% Pool 2, 55% Pool 1) and 921 (55% Pool 2, 45% Pool 1) Pool 2 applicants. If the amount of Band 1 Pool 2 applicants are between 617 and 921, I would expect them to hire all of them and call it a day.

Good Luck all. 4 large TOL batches went out last panel, dates were as follows...
1/4/17 - Referred
1/13/17 - 10 Point Vets
2/4/17 - 5 Point Vets
2/14/17 - CTI
2/24/17 - Pool 2

Breakaway thanks for the excellent breakdown. Just a quick question, I'm having trouble understanding something.

You mentioned there that " With only 452 CTI-ers in the high band, the remaining pool 2 Vets will be hired before the pool 2 CTI-ers."

Did you mean to say the remaining band 2 Vets will be hired before the band 2 CTI-ers?

Thanks for the help, just a little confused

My fault, yes, that is what I meant, I'll edit.

Now I’m really really hoping I got in to band 1 pool 2!

From what I heard no one who scored in band 2 was hired last year. Looks like they might need to take some from band 2 this go around.

What makes you say they need to hire from Band 2? With the amount of CTI Band 1 and Military they meet more than half their goal of ~1400. The rest would be hired out of Band 1 OTS right? Unless of course there are not enough Band 1 OTS candidates.

Pretty psyched at the possibility of getting a TOL, but not holding my breath.

Best of luck to all you others out there who passed the ATSA, and a big THANK YOU to everybody on this website who has contributed information, laid out timelines, and encouraged others.

Maybe I'll see some of you in OKC, maybe not. Either way, I hope everybody enjoys the holidays!

Yeah I must have misread the numbers when I first looked at it. *shrug*

My backup path to okc just fell through so if I'm not band 1 i am so screwed
I somehow just bunged an interview with the tsa

Damn 7 days between referred and TOL one can dream....good on you though. Looks like your process was a lot quicker then what we're going to have to wait for.
Thats because im the most annoying person on the planet!!! I called the ladies at OKC once a day (God bless their hearts). Me and Pam were basically on first name basis

Wrong. You still need to apply the same way.
You are 50% correct buddy! I worked for the TSA for less than a year (incorrect part)!
However, I had to apply like everyone else and go through the ENTIRE process (correct portion). I was never a new hire in the eyes of the government I was an agency transfer.

Last year, out of 9,302 applicants who passed the ATSA, 3,027 were selected. I think they did that in order to account for attrition (failure to pass medical and background checks)...also according to a guy I knew in placement at the academy, a TON of people (mostly pool 2), don't even respond to the TOL email....like ever. they lose interest. This time around, I think it is very likely they will be dipping into band 2, given the lower number of qualified applicants.

To clean this up...
- 5,243 people passed the AT-SA in 2016.
- They selected 3,027 people to account for two fiscal years of hiring, not attrition
- The vast majority of people respond to a TOL email, the small number that dont, the FAA will replace with additional TOLs
- It is highly unlikely that they dip into band 2 when they are looking to select ~1,400.

Ahhhh! I see. the table I see on this KSN website is pretty limited. so Why did they hire for two fiscal years? and what's stopping them from doing the same thing this year?
