The FAA Management is so terrified of being held accountable for negative press, which the ZJX situation has become nationwide, that they absolutely would short other centers to put out the fire at ZJX. Theres hardly any recognition in any of these articles of the multi year training process it would take to even get a transfer up to CPC at a new center. Let alone the god knows how many other facilities that have areas entire rosters working OT every single week, with sectors routinely combined when they normally wouldn't be if staffing was adequate. But theres so many bodies on the books that are not actively working traffic, that they cant figure out that the staffing at alot of these places is really hitting a critical level.

Theres zero care on the FAA's part that they are burning people out, and actively creating an unsafe situation throughout the NAS. The number of significant deals at the ARTCC level is skyrocketing, from a combination of inexperience and exhaustion on the controller staff. None of us signed up to work 50+ hour weeks, every week.

Nothing will actually get solved with the way the FAA is run, its totally disheartening. The type of person that seeks/gets "promotions" to management in this agency is not compatible with actual leadership and getting hard things done. They 100% want to avoid being like ZJX and being a story on NBC. So we'll continue to work 6 days a week forever and if we dont like it, tough. The most likely scenario some idiot in DC will come up with is sending 100 Academy grads in a row to ZJX, and then wondering why they aren't all training for 4 Hours a day.

I try not to be a conspiracy theorist but if so many facilities are running on 6 day work weeks it's only a matter of time until there's an incident and then the privatization argument comes back and how it would fix the staffing issues. Or the FAA could be so inept that they don't even have that in mind... they just want to see those training hours met and nothing else.
 
With this apparent staffing crisis I don’t see how they can not taking more ERR because fresh meat from the Academy will take forever to train…at least CPCs could get quick through the d side of training and be useful much sooner on the r side. If they don’t have staffing to fill the sectors how are they going to have staffing to train 30 new employees fresh out of the academy on the d sides ?
 
Did anyone read the “Developing a Playbook for Red-Hot Florida” email? All it said was because training is back, that’ll fix staffing and in the meantime, they’ll keep capping and tunneling to mitigate things lol. Basically: “we are aware of the problems and our plan is to do absolutely nothing and hope it works out.”

I mean what else can they realistically do? They can't snap their fingers and magically make more CPCs....
 
What exactly is the issue with ZJX’s staffing? On paper they look pretty healthy. They have average to above average current staffing for centers. They have the highest training success rate for centers outside of Guam and they have one of the top projected staffing numbers for centers. They’re eligible to release on NCEPT. Why is this place such a shitshow?

Are they working level 12 traffic with 11 staffing?
ZJX and ZMA is working Level 12+ easy. I can’t speak for ZJX but ZMA was #2 for volume last year and we average 7K ops a day easy… and we are still a level 11. It’s a complete joke and a slap in the face by the union and FAA. Everyone’s burned out from being overworked and underpaid and rightfully so. MIA is level 12 yet ZMA is 11… how does that even fly? ??‍♂️

ZDV is a 10 when D01 and DEN are both 12s

talk to almost any ZJX CPC and they pretty much hate their life and are totally burned out on 60 hour work weeks and ridiculously low staffed areas amidst big traffic pushes and severe weather. Prob bc FL was one of the only states without lockdowns during Covid. But the traffic has been consistent for a while now.

Can confirm…. And they haven’t even given us a string quartet to play us down ?

There is a little hope on the horizon now with our staffing number being raised, but it’s still going to be a while before any noticeable change occurs.
 
I think we still have to take 2021 numbers with a grain of salt. Business travel will increase and rebound the numbers for many of those facilities. (ZNY, ZOB, ZAU, ZDC). The shift in numbers to southern facilities is quite astonishing though. It shows where the current demand is. Pretty cool.
