Getting out of NATCA

They had a little pre-filmed spoof of Jimmy Kimmel's(?) 'Mean Tweets' where Paul and Trish read things that people tweeted/said about them and a lot of it had to do with privatization. It was sort of cute *I guess* but when the majority of us don't want it-to feel like we're being made fun of and brushed off was kind of dickish on their part.

is CFS worth it to go? I've never been
CFS is awesome... I have been twice. The Archie Banquet alone is worth it. But CFS is what you make it. Some people use it as an excuse to go to Vegas and party. I actually enjoy most of the sessions and listening to the speakers.

100% agree. CFS is awesome. Everyone needs to go at least once.

I went for my first time this year. Some of the panels were very dry and hard for me to keep my focus on, but they may have been very good for other people. Other panels and speakers were amazing. The equipment showcases were fantastic (the thing that will replace web scheduler was so cool). It was also just great to see all my former military buddies that are at facilities across the country.

CFS is great. But I feel 2017's conference was nothing more than a rehash of the 2016 conference. They talked about collaboration for 5 HOURS straight on the first day. Completely lost me this year.

I agree, however I took it as a message of 'we have a good thing going, but Republicans now run the gov, let's keep the good relations going and not fuck this up by getting divisive'.

The Union only wants our money, save your money you can put it to better use, and even though you may not be a member you local union still has to represent you. Also if we stop paying them they may realize that they need to get their S*%t together. Furthermore, in my opinion the union only protects the crappiest employees. If you show up to work and do your job then you don't need the union.

With the Red, and now Slate book you’re right. It was during the times of the white book and management on a power trip when the union earned its dues. I’d rather have them around and happy with me as a member when that comes back around (privatization etc). I have my issues with NATCA but am not ready to abandon ship.

Well with natca being the ones trying to privatize us I'm not sure how much they have our best interests in mind. Once we're privatized I doubt the union will have as much 'power' as they do now, eventually it will just be kind of a trade association type of thing in name only.

I am definitely not on board with privatization or NATCA’s endorsement of it, but we do need to be at the table. I believe it is inevitable, they have been trying this for over twenty years. It’s only a matter of time. The way union members feel about the non union workforce will have a big impact on how much work NATCA is going to put forth defending that individual.

I was a car mechanic at a Union shop. All the mechanics had to be part of the union but the other departments did not. The pay and compensation for the union members was considerably higher than it was for the non-union members. If ATC privatized it could conceivable go to something similar. I am also against privatization and it's why I don't donate to the PAC, since I don't want my money being spent on lobbying for it, but no way I'm getting out of the union.
