NCEPT debate thread

You say nerves I say to many weekends blowing their per diem at bricktown or the Casinos, and Tinder. Those are the real reasons for the staffing crisis, and amount of CPC-ITs.

"And honestly new hires should come last. Let the people who are actually certified and have put some time into the agency get where they want to be first."

Couldn't agree more. What's the point of your numbered ranking on the 3330-43 if they're going to select whomever they want anyway? That number should definitely matter.

How's this for a system:

-Keep track of "facility" seniority. Use the first day facility CPC is achieved (at current facility only) to track this.

-Keep doing monthly/quarterly/biannual/whatever panels. Keep the ERR request submission system like it currently is. That is, each CPC wanting to transfer keeps HR updated with a list of their preferences in order. For each panel follow the following process:

1. If a facility is able to release a body, gather all the CPC ERR's on file for that place. Sort them by facility seniority then by the order of places that the transferring CPC's want to go. So, you'll get a list of all requests for all CPC's at a facility who can let someone go in a prioritized order.

2. Take each list from every eligible facility to release in the NAS. Sort all CPC's in this huge list first by their facility seniority and second by where they are wanting to transfer.

3. Go through this entire list and if the facility being requested has a vacancy, approve the transfer and update #'s accordingly.

IMO this method is the best way of discouraging bogus transfers and penalizing people who file ERR's throughout the NAS. It also ensures that you don't screw your previous tower over by leaving in front of all the other CPC's who have been trying to get out longer unless they're being very picky. Finally, it puts a light at the end of the tunnel for people willing to put their time in at a lower level tower in order to move up.

Thoughts?

I don’t know if facility senior is a fair play based on CPC status. There are dozens of things that can happen outside of a controllers control that slow down cpc status. Could be waiting for rtf, assigned a more difficult area in the center, etc.

Trying to figure out if I understand this..

So lets pretend my facility can release 1. I've been at my facility since 9/1/2010 and my cowoker has been there since 9/2/2010.

If I put paperwork into SMO and he has paperwork into LAX. I'd get selected because of seniority?

(Lets also pretend were the only people in the NAS who have paperwork to move)

Yeah, if both of those facilities have vacancies (need people), why not? FWIW he'll be the next person to leave after you do..

Plus LAX has like 20 trainees and you'll wait half a year to get a sim class but I'm assuming that's not part of your example ;)

Haha yeah I know. I'm just going by a facility that'll be closed in 10 years vs one that is fairly important to the NAS.

I think you may be headed in the right direction but the FAA is going to do what they think is best for the FAA and I don't think that plan would ever happen. Haha

What's wrong with a facility being able to pull a list of applicants any time they need controllers? First to apply, first to be selected granted their facility can release bodies.

I think the response to this will be along the lines of the FAA attempting to balance out the NAS?

So are they gonna continue making swaps apart of ncept even with waiting forever for the next panel?

Sounds like a perfect system for a shitty employee/coworker to finally get selected despite the current facility’s feedback.
Or shitty management to hate on you and hurt your chances because they are petty. I transferred a couple months ago. On my last day my ATM (who was an incompetent ass hole) basically told me how horrible an employee I was and pretty much said without saying it that I didn't deserve the opportunity I was getting. He then said if I wash out he would make sure I wouldn't be able to use return rights to transfer back. This coming from someone who was HORRIBLE at their job. ATMs like him is why its good they don't have a say in it

You should have used that opportunity to unload some truth bombs on him, that gave you carte blanche to respond in kind. Good luck trying to take punitive action on you at your gaining facility, especially when the facts and circumstances come out. Hostile work environment! et al. It is people like that who destroy the career field and treat their ATM position as if it is a coronation that crowned them king of their little shithole, and not use their wisdom and professionalism to enhance the NAS. People like that eventually get their comeuppance, and it can't come soon enough!

I thought about it. I really did. But the guy is a miserable old man on an age waver biter he can no longer work traffic. I didn't want to stoop to his level. There was no point. Plus he loved to act like he had a roll in people getting picked up out of the facility. The fact that I never played his stupid games or kissed up to him and still was able to transfer out obviously upset him. He realized he had no power over me. He lost I won. I stayed professional and things are going great at my new facility. Karma is real.

As was mentioned he has no control over return rights so you should have told him to suck return rights out of your dick. It was probably a level five up/down.
