Terminal Class pass rate

Curious, what state in the Midwest?

Calif has among the highest taxes in the nation. It’s base sales tax rate of 7.25% is higher than any other state . It’s top marginal state income tax rate of 13.3% is the highest in the US.
Probably IL, those taxes are ridiculous for a Midwest state

Here in Fort Worth my combined state and county sales tax is 8.5% matching the top sales tax in areas of San Diego I grew up.

I asked my academy instructor why their locality is so high and he said locality is based off average pay in the area not cost of living and Houston has a lot of high paying jobs. Idk if it’s true though I haven’t looked into it
Good paying oil and gas jobs down there, makes sense

All localities are based on area wages not cost of living. Cost of living is addressed in certain circumstances with COLA.

Texas=no state income tax, pretty significant at ATC income levelz
Texas finds way to get the money from you. Property tax here is outrageous. Year after year people get taxed out of their homes. Legit had a coworker in three years before they transferred go from 1350 a month mortgage to 1900 a month. Every year they contest and won just to be told there is a two year back log and once the year lapses they don’t get the retroactive pay back or price cut.

True, property tax gets ya pretty good there. Just saying TX is tax friendly overall, state and local tax burden ranks 33 out of 50. That’s according to World Population Review, other sources rank it a little better

Our facility list:

MAF
FLO
AGC
ACK
MGM
RDG
ASE
ONT

Seriously ASE and ACK on the same list? Wooof
Haven’t heard too many positives about MAF.

RDG seems like it would be an easier check out and the area is super cheap. There’s a minor league baseball team there and it’s ~1 hour from Philly

ONT is 24 hours and I don’t think the training reputation is sterling but it’s SoCal and has decent commercial and cargo traffic if you’re into that.

ONT

Thoughts, opinions, comments?
1. HIO- tower only level 7, no sales tax, checkout time not too bad, and good staffing
2. MGM Shitty staffing but lots of trainees, not bad training time, level 7. Easy number 2 on paper
3. AGC Maybe unpopular opinion here but easy level 4 with decent staffing, likely a revolving door to get in and out quick.
4. FLO- Don't know much other than it's SC with good staffing and a bunch of d3 trainees, so it's got that going for you.
5. MAF- lot of hate, especially from AB19 but I don't think it could be that bad. COLA not as bad as it used to be, shitty training times but at least you have level 7 traffic.
6. ACK- Last place and it's not even close due to COLA imo
I figure passing 6/9 seems about average but RDG might be a close decision with MAF and ASE would only beat out ACK. Good luck on evals

Not the only one, but this place is easier to live than ASE or ACK

Sometimes I forget the extremes of the "I agree to move anywhere in the US" and then I really sit down and think about what it would be like telling my wife and family, "Hey guys we're moving to freakin Aspen/Nantucket, so forget about owning a house in the next 5-10 years. I said I'd go anywhere, just tough luck guys." Or even crazier, "Hey family, I hope you like open spaces and subzero temperatures because my Ground Controller screwed me on my eval and we're going to Fargo, ND with no plausible realistic timeframe of being able to leave." I love the job, but its astonishing to think about the range of outcomes for someone out of the academy

Quite a few I know are looking into other options once they hit CPC then going to DOD for a while.
