Terminal Class pass rate

Unless your CTI school actually use simulators to train on or actual live traffic then I don’t see how it matters between them. If it’s all bookwork it’s all shit you learn at academy. Probably drawn straight from basics material like the Vaughn CTI class.

Are you aware Beaver has their own control tower? They work quite a bit of live traffic before they ever see the academy. I don’t know if they still do, but Sups from PIT use to come up and they would get CTOs as well. Not all CTI schools are the same and shouldn’t be lumped together.

Nope, but I put in my statement that a simulator or live traffic is what would set a program apart. They shouldn’t even have CTI programs as it’s not needed. Waste of a persons money and time.

Nah i went to a “good” cti school. It’s fucking dumb and doesn’t prepare you at all

The only CTI student in my class washed... the only prior experience student in my class washed... the academy is what you make it. They do not teach you how to be air traffic controllers... they teach you how to pass a course. What you choose to make of that information is up to you.

COVID. It would have been extremely helpful imo to see how my classmates were performing and offer what assistance to help them pass. Then again PA's are a crapshoot if nerves get to you and are unfortunate to get the hard problems.

Majority of CTI schools are crap. We had one that passed that came from Embry–Riddle Aeronautical University which I would consider the only good quality CTI university.
For a quarter of a million dollars it better be good! Although I did have an ERAU grad fail in my class. Imagine being $200,000+ in debt and have an ATC degree after failing the academy… YIKES

I believe we call those “pilots”. I mean what else are you going to do after you fail the academy? ??‍♂️ Plus most people fly when they go to those colleges along with ATC degree and come from money so it’s not thaaaat big of a deal. I also went to CTI school so I’ve seen the nonsense first hand ?

We have a guy from Beaver who graduated with a CTO, can definitely say that he's from money and acts like it. To add on that was his second degree after getting a BA in Business (enter generic term).

I actually feel like my CTI school prepared me pretty well for the Academy. We covered all the Basics stuff and did simulators for tower, TRACON, and en route plus non radar. And they had ATC as a minor, so your actual degree is in something you can fall back on if you don't win the hiring lottery. I will say, though, that we had a pretty even mix of military controllers, CTI, and OTS in my Academy class and there was no difference in pass rate. I think CTI schools should just do a better job of weeding out people who aren't cut out for the job. And provide other employment avenues than just ATC.

Back when I did it it was the only hiring path. Besides military and prior experience. It exposed me but I wouldn’t say it prepared me. It also took my like 4 years to get hired so I didn’t remember much

haha yeah but you could be a blind and have no arms and they’d still take your money.

List for class finishing week of 8/6.
ELM
EVV
CMA
ELM
SJC
CDW
EVV
SPI

This is my wife’s class. Would appreciate any commentary regarding these facilities.
I think we may have beaten the Evansville horse to death at this point. SJC looks like the clear winner in this group... Level 7 Tower with CIP and potential future pathways to SFO or NCT. I know very little about the others, besides SPI is losing it's TRACON (along with PIA) to T75.

ELM will eventually lose radar also to AVP in 2023

I dont know anything about CDW but just based off the facility page I'd choose it. Do not take an up/down if you want to move around and it's a tower only. SJC and CMA are expensive, and EVV is a hell hole. I would imagine SPI wouldn't be too bad but it's an up/down. And it seems ELM is losing their radar so it'll eventually be a tower only which will also help. So I'd probably go with CDW or ELM.
