Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-21-ALLSRCE-73599

Correct. Scores are good for 3 years. If you got a BQ last time you tested and it was less than 3 years ago, I’d suggest leaving well enough alone.
If you got best qualified and didn’t get a TOL why wouldn’t you try for a better score to increase your chances on getting one. Especially if they’re just giving out a certain amount of TOLs to the highest scoring individuals. Then again I don’t know how it works.

Because if you retake the test end up scoring on a lower band then that’s the score that will be taken into account until you take the test again. BQ is the best score you can get. I know some people that decided to leave their scores on BQ or WQ two bids ago, didn’t retake the test and got a TOL.

I understand this mentality but I’d have hated myself if I aged out trying to use the same score and didn’t try my hardest to get hired knowing I could score better. Took me a little over 5 years to get hired not that that matters but I know the feeling of what people are going through who have tried for a long time to get hired.

Exactly. I reused my BQ from 2018 bid for the 2020 bid.

So correct me if I’m wrong, BQ is the best score you can get. If you take the test again you can score BQ but with a higher score? This will be my 7th attempt so I definitely understand the feeling.

My score that got me in once didn’t get me in again (long story not the point). They seem to change up how they weight sections, go data purposes most likely to figure out the best ratio. Just a guess. Keep that in mind for those thinking of keeping their score.

More accurately, BQ is the highest scoring band that you can be placed in. You don't know what your actual BQ score is and If it is "good" enough to be issued a TOL among the applicants that also scored BQ.

I scored a BQ from the 2018 bid and did not get a TOL. Retested for the 2019 bid and got another BQ and was given a TOL. I felt I did much better on the ATSA the second time. The general rule is you keep testing until you get a TOL, don't settle for anything less if you want this job. Also, due to the pandemic, the 2020 bid didn't have a lot of people scoring BQ in relation to the overall pool of candidates and the number of candidates when compared historically. Barring another pandemic which shuts down testing centers, I don't expect any WQ/Q from Pool 2 to get a TOL this bid. Too many gamers are applying and are good at testing...

My application was denied for 2019 because I didn’t attach my college transcript.

This will be my 7th attempt, good luck to all! Does anyone know if the test will change now that we have a new test administrator? Just out of curiosity.
The test itself was identical in my experience. You may start with one half or the other. Pearson was a bit more stringent when it came to things likes stepping out, having a beverage with you, etc. than PSI was.

My nearest Pearson testing center has a two-star rating on Google with everyone complaining about how the staff made them feel like "criminals" lol.

No one really knows how they score the ATSA. So even if you get another BQ, there’s no way of knowing you actually did better than your last BQ. I took the ATSA twice. First time got a Q, no TOL. Second time, felt like I actually did worse and got BQ and a TOL. Declined the offer at the time and reused the score in the 2020 bid. Got a TOL again.

If you want to retake it, retake it, but I personally think the risk is greater than the reward. I think you’re better off refining your résumé if you don’t get a TOL. If you’re not near the cut-off age, just keep the score until you have to take it again and reapply each bid. They can only take so many Pool 2 applicants each bid. If you don’t get a TOL, it might have 0 to do with your score. If you retake and get less than BQ, now you're at greater risk of being passed over because of your score.

I know nobody can speak to how the FAA decides things, but in the case of those individuals who got a BQ but didn't get a TOL, I wonder how much of that has to do with their resume like you suggested.

In other words, let's say two people get BQs: person A and person B. Let's say, person A has a bachelor's or master's degree and person B doesn't have a bachelor's degree but has three years of consecutive work experience instead. Since there are a limited number of TOLs to be given out, would you say the person with the less "refined resume" (in this case, person B) has a greater chance of being "passed over" than person A?

In the grand scheme of things, this stuff doesn't really matter. We just need to do the best we can on the ATSA and let the cards fall where they may, but since there's nothing else to talk about right now, why not speculate? lol

I’m just saying that the resume is the only real thing you have some control over after you’ve already gotten a BQ score. If you meet the minimum requirements, the resume probably makes little if any difference.

Speculating about shit nobody knows is all we got ?

This may be a really dumb question. I didn’t receive an email - as it seems everyone else did.

However on the USAjobs and AVIATOR website it says my application is still active. I’m prior military and have a four year degree. I attached my DD214 and transcripts to the app.

Is it possible more emails will be going out, or am I SOL? Thanks y’all!

Call and email. I had this happen in the 2020 bid when all my friends were getting invites and I hadn’t heard anything. If I hadn’t reached out I would’ve never gotten the chance.
