Hiring Bid FAA-ATO-21-ALLSRCE-73599

Just finished the test. Wow the atc simulation was ok, I still have 5-7 collisions.. I’m pretty concerned about that.. anyone have experience with that? I did some math questions and got some right and just guessed the bull of them. Speed was about medium in job.

Logical reasoning, I nearly ran out of time and guessed the last 7 questions. Not sure if anyone else is bracing for impact on that. This one is a crap shoot..

Everything else was spot on.. with few errors. I’ve gotten qualified before but I was in a panic state.. this time I was more relaxed… who knows how the faa grades these things. I’m 28 and about to age out soon. I already have a good job in government service but this is what I’d like to do. Either way, I feel happy to just sit and wait.
Yea I took it last year during covid and got qualified and I was also in a panic state. I was super freaked out and felt like I couldn't breathe or concentrate. Being relaxed is such an important factor during this exam I can't stress it enough.

I was panic as hell for the first test but just tried my best to default back onto my ATCPrep practicing, think it worked okay. By the time it hit the ATC sim I feel I somewhat calmed down so I'm hoping that being stressed for a hot minute didn't f*ck my score up too hard.

That's a good strategy, to pretend like it's just another practice session so you don't get too anxious. I'm sure you did great!

Sure hope so! But I feel like it's impossible to tell how I did. I've seen some people say they thought they did pretty good and get Q and I've seen some people say they thought they bombed it and get BQ. I currently work for the probably second most hated government agency so I'm used to "hurry up and wait" government BS at least.

We will found out in January so hang tight!

I hope so. In my mind, since I have already completed the test, I already said to myself I didn’t get the job. You can’t be let down if your expectations were low to begin with…

Has anyone else completed the test recently and have some feed back as to how their experience was?

Is there any set numbers the FAA is trying to hire from this bid?

Dang I'm seeing a lot of you with like 2 or 5 collisions. When I practice on Job I have like 10 haha. Some I can't even control cause they come in the screen already collided.

you don’t need to worry about that. the actual test is designed so that no collisions like that happen before you even have a chance to react. although you do need to be quick with some at the start!

This is what I was wondering because when I took it last year, there would be balls flying into the screen already collided at the same time. Maybe I just suck at collisions lol

Usually every bid, there's someone in a CTI group with a professor that has close connection to the FAA that reveals how many people the FAA are looking to hire in the bid and how many people got BQ/WQ/Q. Last bid had one and it was accurate. Hopefully we have one for this bid!

It’s so hard to predict how the FAA hires people. Looking at the 2019 bid and how frustrating that was. I was in that pool 1 hiring group and had qualified but this time I used job test prep and atc prep to get ready for 3 months every day. I remember the first two times I did the atsa I didn’t feel relaxed or confident. I always was second guessing myself with the previous tests. I also felt dizzy after all the mind bending before.

According to the job test prep software, the personality test is one of the areas you can go in and be prepared to show them what an ideal candidate is.

This time, I felt like it was a practice test but with a little more nerves involved. I had 5-7 collisions, but I kept driving on like it was no problem. Go in knowing you are human and mistakes happen. Looking back, I am just happy to get another opportunity.

At this point in my life, I have another government job, pulling in 6 figures. If I don’t get this I’ll be more than ok. I have over $112k invested in the S&P 500 (C fund) and Dow (S fund). This will just be icing on the cake.

Just curious, if you don't mind answering, what makes you want to do this if you already have a high-paying government job? In other words, why go through all this trouble?

Meanwhile 3 years into my current government job and I'm probably pulling in just a couple more grand than an ATC Academy trainee gets with per diem ?

It’s a personal achievement for me. I wanted to do this for a while and I am seeing if I can make it. I still am building my wealth. I am by no means rich, I am just a very frugal person. If you saw me on the street you’d never expect me to have any money. All my cars are used, my shoes have holes in them and are faded.

I haven't hit 6 figures until recently in the past 2 years. ATC will allow me to exercise what I learned in college and allow me to reach my personal goal. The current job I have now will be capping out at $120k. I am more than ready for a change as well. I truly don’t have to work for the rest of my life if I don’t want to, but I’ve chosen to exercise my brain and not be a deadbeat to society. I want to see myself reach a goal, money is only a tool to reach my goals in life. None of my wealth is handed down to me, I spent a fair amount of time in the service, so I was able to truly max out on my tsp for many years. I had no housing expenses and Heathcare was never an issue.

The true gift is knowledge and the ability to continue learning!

Keep climbing! I wouldn’t wait on Uncle Sam to do the right thing, invest and continue investing! That’s why I just throw my application in and see what happens and do the test and see what happens. I won’t be saddened, neither should any of you if you don’t get selected.

One of my life goals was to join the military and serve honorably. It has truly changed my outlook on life. I came back to civilian life with renewed purpose and outlook.

Can anyone (who has taken the test before) confirm on the collision simulation that it is more important to avoid collisions than answering the math? Did anyone get WQ or BQ and only answer a handful of the math?

Also anyone else recently take the test? How y'all think it went

I went through in the 2019 bid. On the collision portion, I had 2-3 collisions and I estimate I answered around 30-40% of the math questions. Ended up with BQ.

I 100% prioritized the collisions and I’d have to recommend that since it worked out for me.

I took my test last Friday and I would have to say using the ATCPREP helped me a lot. But that test was a tad difficult. I easily had 5 collisions. The logic and reasoning was tough and I barely answered the last question before the time was up.

  • I remembered form an ACTprep class in high school about reading passages which was read the question first then read the passage. And they really helped me.

  • Also there was an earlier thread that talked about how to answer the math questions by focusing only on the last digit of the numbers ( 356-194= 162. in this equation I subtracted 6-4 and I know the answer I need will have a 2 in it. Therefore when you have 4 choices to pic from you know the correct answer will end in a 2. ) The person who shared that said it worked for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • The spatial relationship test was kind of hard because the questions popped up so fast and sometime id press the "T" key when meant to press the "F" key and vice versa.

I feel like I did decent but just have to wait until January to see how i really did.

** Testing Center Notes**
  • Bring one form of I.D. such as Drivers License or Passport ANDDDDD something with your name and SIGNATURE ON IT ( I signed the back of my debit card and used it)
  • You get a 30 minute break to use how you please but your total time does not stop it continues to run.
Truly good luck to all of you that have not taken the test.

Taking it tomorrow for the 3rd time. Somehow last year I got qualified which I still don’t understand.

Not using my 30 minute break the same way I try to not poop at the gym, makes me lose steam and focus.
Yes that is definitely something I regret, not utilizing that break last time. I thought I would do better if I just kept on going but my brain was giving out towards the last quarter of the test.

You will do great, good luck!!
