Washing out vs Withdrawing from training

Either way, per the NEST MOU, CPC-IT's and developmentals who are unsuccessful in training (training failure) will be assigned a level by the NEST team.
Ex. Retention at a level 7 or below. Their list would include every single level 7 of below facility below the projected national average to choose from.

It does not specifically say CPC-IT's, but it does say developmentals who withdrawal will from training will be given a list of no more then 5 facilities and they will be placed after every training failure has been placed.

Read the process here.
NEST Placement

If you're intending to go back to your previous facility (and they are under 100% projected) you can bypass the NEST and return directly to your old facility as well.

So if you are at a center and have all of your d sides, what happens if you withdraw from training for radar?

1st facility, not really sure what the "rules" are, like if you have to be unsuccessful or if it's a choice, I would gladly take a downgrade in pay to go from a level 12 center to a smaller tower.

If they retain you (they could terminate your employment and I've seen it done with people as high as D2 at 12 centers), you would be given a list of no more then 5 facilities currently below the projected national average. Everyone who is a training failure will be placed before you.

Yeah the termination part would be what I'm afraid of...

Even if your mind is fairly made up, I'd encourage you to continue to work hard and keep training. If your training is suspended, they'll interview your FLM and each member of your training team in a TRB (Training Review Board). If they all like you, when the question comes up of, "Do you think this person can make it at a smaller level facility?" the odds of them giving you a positive review go up tremendously.

The only other way out that guarantees your employment is through a qualifying hardship.

If you are unsuccessful in training at an En Route facility and get NEST'ed, I read that you must return to the academy if offered a Tower. If you fail the Terminal academy class, are you then completely terminated?

My terminal class had an Enroute washout that failed his second local PV and was let go completely.

Must have been over six years ago. That specific issue was arbitrated at the highest level and since mid 2012 or so everyone in that situation does attend the academy for tower training, and can “fail” if you want to be super technical, but they can not be fired. All are given the opportunity to report to their new facility and begin training regardless of the result. Most of whom make it, taking a small swipe at the validity of the OKC tower program.

You can only face job jeopardy at the academy once.
Generally. I know of a person recently that went through the Academy again. First time was before 2014 for tower, didn't make it at the facility, was terminated, reapplied to one of the all-source announcements, was hired, sent to basics and initial tower at Academy, and was told that it was still job-jeopardy. Passed so it didn't matter I guess.

As far as returning to the academy you're correct. The language is in the 3120.4P, Chapter 4, Section 2, Paragraph D.

d. En Route developmentals changing to a Terminal option, Terminal developmentals changing to the En Route option, and Terminal developmentals changing to a different facility type must attend initial qualification training for the new option or facility type.

To the best of my knowledge, I believe FightingIrish and MJ are correct, but with working on Stinger's issue above, I could not find a document stating that in writing. If anyone has it, I'd love to see if for my records and when this issues arises again.

My example was 2010, so definitely could have changed. I don’t see why they shouldn’t have to pass academy. After time at an enroute facility Tower class should be a breeze.

That's unique though. The first career was terminated, everything reset. In any case, that's not applicable anymore. Once you're fired you can't be hired back.

Guy withdrew from training at my facility and was retained. He said they only offered a certain amount of pass/pass terminal classes and he had the choice to either risk it and go to a pass/fail one with new hires or wait until a pass/pass class got filled with washouts/withdrawals. I find that interesting. He goes to OKC for a pass/pass class sometime in Feb/March I believe.
