Also, President Obama chose an older white man to be his running mate as Obama himself was the first black candidate for President on a major ticket.

The VP is almost always a Machiavellian compromise. While it can strengthen the appeal ticket here or there, the main draw is still the president. In the case of Biden in 08, he was the 3rd candidate. Hillary was never going to be 2nd fiddle to Obama and so that left Biden, a lifelong politician to balance out the inexperience of a senator in his first term. But had they picked someone else from anywhere else, it wouldn’t have made people not vote for Obama. The VP is an accessory, one whose job it is to make the pres candidate more shiny and people don’t vote based on who the VP isn’t. Harris doesn’t even have a VP yet and somehow people are still supporting her, in contravention of your claim that the VP actually matters.
