Alright, here’s the situation. My Sup made a schedule where I was CIC today while he went down stairs and he wanted me to train a coworker on CIC while also being CIC. We staff 2 positions in the tower, LC&GC and staffing permitting a stand alone CIC. If im stand alone, can I legally train on the CIC position? The other 2 guys working GC & LC are not CIC rated. It shows I’m training my coworker on CIC in CRU-ART.. do I get CIC pay and OJT pay for the hour? To me it doesn’t sound legal, but ??‍♂️

I think in these circumstances facilities usually have Radar CIC. "send CIC downstairs" , which is goofy as hell because then theyre responsible for shit they have no control over. I don't know the legality of it, but since you are entitled to 10% premiums pays for both, if they somehow say its legal you'd have to get 20% id imagine. Either way its poor form and goofy at best. Why doesnt he call in OT and staff up the facility properly. You hould just say no, I dont feel comfortable training under these circumstances, and its wrong of you to put me in this position!

I was more interested in making sure I was getting both prems. Don’t really care about the other part haha

I think it also depends on your facility and what your previous experience is. Waivers can be submitted to lessen that time frame.

I've never seen a CPC train a future CIC. It's always been our supes who plugged in with them and did the CIC training and cert.

I believe it is 6 months if you have been CIC before. If it is your first time being CIC one year after CPC.
False. 6 months if you haven’t been CIC before. If you have, any time after certified at new facility.

Also, the initial 6 months is able to be waived under certain circumstances. I had my Tower CIC at my first facility (6 up/down) within a couple of days after getting certified on LC.

3120.4r doesn't specify length of time requirements. Having said that, each facility can add whatever they want.

Not sure where you guys are seeing these requirements in the .4r that have been quoted.

For good measure I went back to the 3120.4p and there was no requirement on minimum time there either. So, unless I am not seeing something in these orders, there is no minimum in the current order nor has this changed from the previous order.

Maybe there are requirements in the 7210.3 that I am unaware of.

7210.3 2–6–3 said:
a. Prior to being designated as a CIC, specialists must meet the following prerequisites:
  1. Have been certified for 6  months in the area/facility CIC duties to be performed. (The Director of En Route and Oceanic Operations Area Office or Terminal Operations Service Area Office may issue a facility waiver for the 6 month requirement where a more immediate assignment is needed. Waivers to facilities will be for 1 year, with renewals based on the result of a yearly evaluation by the area office director.)
b. Specialists who have been designated as a CIC and subsequently transfer to another facility are not required to fulfill the requirement of subparagraph 2-6-3a1 at the new facility; however, they must meet all other prerequisites.
